Those guys tend to stick around, it's the arizonas or San Diego's where ownership has expectations that don't match reality that are usually open.

That's my point. If he went to a lower payroll operation I assume he'd feel extremely comfortable with the long-term expectations.

Why not? Lind can pretty much only play first base. Lobaton can only catch. Norris can do either and provides a bench bat against LHP. Who else are you going to keep on the bench? Michael Taylor?
The Drew signing frees up Murphy to play first. So we have at least three first basemen and that's plenty.  And we still have Robinson. I don't know if we will retain him, but he does play outfield (sort of).

Robinson is gone. Lind replaces him.

You trade Lobaton or roll with three catchers.

Norris can play first base.

It's first base. It isn't hard.
I'm disappointed that no one here has pointed out the most important part of this trade: Matt Wieters looks a lot better than Derek Norris in jeans.
Scott: We have a deal, if it’s eight million.
Billy Beane Mike Rizzo: Oh, man! You played me.
Scott: I’m just doing my job…
Billy BeaneMike Rizzo: No, you’re playing me and you’re still playing me. Congratulations, jerk! You win.
Scott: I'll just call the Lerners.

Chicago is going to get a lot more than Norris for Robertson.

Seeing how we got fleeced for Eaton I wouldn't want to trade with Chicago again

It's like you didn't pay attention to the trade deadline this past season . . .

I think Stevenson is a 4th/5th OF, but I take your point. So [insert your non-future everyday player here] + Norris.

Robertson is not Chapman or Miller. He's not even Melancon.

EDIT: and this isn't the trade deadline.

plus Glover.  They are in a rebuild so Norris is just filler. Glover is backfill in the pen and can slot in behind Nate Jones. With Roberston, Glover is depth here.  Stevenson is a B- prospect.

I don't understand the Fangraphs article. The Nats signed flier deals to guys like Worley, Guthrie, Nathan, and all the other NRIs to fill their depth issue. It's not like the Nats are going to sign someone who can literally start as a number 5 on most teams to sit in AAA.

Then the bullpen thing is that the Nats lack a closer, so they tried to do that and ended up losing every time. Joe Blanton is no better than Kelley, Treinen or Solis, and maybe not any better than Gott or Glover. He is probably better than Perez and doesn't have the upside (no matter the longshot) of Romero or Cordero.

Angel Pagan can't stay healthy and I don't worry about having a backup plan of Goodwin and Taylor stashed in AAA.

Likely, I take Norris, Lobaton, Lind, Heisey, and Drew as the bench. Zimmerman and Werth need the most days off, so it goes to say that Having Lind and Norris who can handle 1B and Lind can be stuck in LF as a last resort makes sense. If anyone hits the 10 day DL, then Taylor, Goodwin, or Difo can be called up.

I'm hoping not. Non-zero chance Glover has a better ERA than Robertson this season.

He's still good and the market is still the same. There not giving up Robertson for a 5th OFer and a back up catcher/weakside platoon first baseman. If that's all it takes, Rizzo is back to being the magician.

I'm hoping for the magician, because otherwise I can't think of why we wouldn't have done it before. It has to include Norris or Severino because otherwise you can make the deal whenever you want, without Wieters.

I mean why are they holding their entire market to wait for the Nationals to acquire Wieters? They can't be asking for MORE than Soto can they?

Rizzo needs to be fired if he's so desperate the White Sox are saying, not wait, Juan Soto isn't enough for our fairly paid RP. You need to overpay Matt Wieters and trade us Severino too.

I mean, GTFOH if that's the case.

It would make a lot of sense. I wouldn't be surprised by Severino plus another C+ prospect: Difo, Ward, Goodwin, Cole, or one of the international signings that isn't Soto or Robles.

I just don't see Rizzo being desperate enough to give up another boatload for a sub 6-foot RP with a mid-3 ERA last year. Hope I'm right.

What are you dense? ST has already started and we picked up Wieters.  Murphy was a late addition last year and look how that turned out.

Lol you sure are something.

Yeah, are people serious? The White Sox are rebuilding and have zero need for Norris.
