Frees up Norris, Lobs, or Severino to go to The White Sox for Robertson.

The thing about Rizzo... you never know until it's over.

And it frees up Norris to be the closer.  Best option we've had yet.  Things are looking up.

I feel like Robertson should cost less than an MLB level player, unless that player is fodder. I am really loath to give up Severino, as I think he could actually be pretty good.

In theory, the team could just roll with Lobaton and Norris as bench pieces,

That would make sense only if one of them could play another position.  You can't tie up three roster spots on guys who only catch.

Wieters has played first base, but only four games total, so that's probably not an option.

Norris can play first base.

It's first base. It isn't hard.

He's way too ugly to play first base.

My guess is he will hit more than Zimmerman and isn't as likely to have those zimmerman special throws across the diamond.

Same.  I like the idea of hanging onto the young catcher.

Let me be more direct:  You can't tie up three roster spots on guys who only catch or play first base.

Rizzo will leave to a better ownership situation as soon as he can.

Gotta wait and see if something else happens with one of the catchers. But it seems like a bunch of money for a potentially declining catcher.

Boras and the Lerners?

Terrible deal. Sorry.

Because of the out? Years? Money? All three?

Legitimately asking.

Depends on if this means Severino can be moved for Robertson.

Why are people down on it?
It's an upgrade and a switch hitting replacement for Ramos
It didn't cost a draft pick
All the money is deferred to 2021

The money, and, given the money, the opt-out too.  If he had been signed for, say $4m, I wouldn't object to the opt-out.  But we are paying a premium to let him rehabilitate his career which if he does so he's gone, and if he doesn't, we're stuck with paying a premium again for a washed up catcher.

I really hate these opt-outs.

Everyone says the Lerners are cheap. And then when they sign someone they overpaid. It's not my money. Not keeping them from signing anyone else this year. Worry about next year next year.

But what if none of those things happens and Wieters is merely pretty good and stays a Nat over the next two years, which are universally considered our window to win?
