Are Budweiser beers $10.50 as well ?

$10.50 for beers? Holy freak. Not only expensive but inconvenient. How greedy can an old man be?

As long as one has to pay that much for a beer, one may as well go for the quality.

I'm still wondering how Nats concessions last season got the 14.9oz Stella cans when they aren't available in the grocery stores anymore (nowadays they're in 12-packs of standard European-size 330mL cans).

The Stellas were definitely $10.50. More than the price of a six pack in the store. It's just wrong.

Is there still the knockoff prices under the scoreboard before 1st pitch?

I am amazed at these people who think the Nats are going to get a handle on food and drink sales.  But it's not entirely on the Nats because there simply isn't the capacity to feed 41k people in a timely manner and since the Nats allow people to bring in food and water there is no excuse for getting caught up 30 minute long lines. When we go we always bring in a soft sided cooler and load it with chicken or subs or whatever and screw the lines and the high prices. That way I can justify paying Lerner prices when the beer vendor comes along.  :mg:

This. For Opening Day we always tailgate a bit and eat outside and bring in some food and water. I try to never leave my seat for the entire game. The lines are just too damn long.

Remember, no one is forcing you to eat and drink at the park. If money is an issue, keep your wallet in your pocket. Having said that, most other games I like to sample the fare. It's part of the whole deal.

I don't eat often at the ballpark (usually have something right before or right after) but beer accompanies the ballpark experience quite nicely, especially when it's the good stuff like Stella, Heineken or Pilsner Urquell.

Being able to order concessions to your seats should help alleviate at least some of the lines, but the computer systems were hosed most of the day yesterday, from what I understand. We had some weird wacky things going on with our SPH cards trying to enter the park.  Even if it takes a long time for your beer and dog to show up at your seat, you're at least watching the game and not sweatin' about what you're missing.

Did anyone try the new app-based ordering at all?

When I see toddlers at the ballpark I always wonder whether they are the result of those LF frozen daiquiris.

Apparently yes. $5 but only for Bud or Bud Light and only up until 30 minutes before scheduled first pitch.

Some years back they used to have Pilsner Urquell available there as well (Urquell is under same ownership as Miller)...I miss that.

The Nats are going with the if you have to ask you can't afford it theory on listing beer prices. Note that they list the tax but not the actual cost.

Beyond that, WTF is up with these beers? Who drinks peppercorn beer? Who wants a piney, citrusy, caramel flavor beer? The Fair Winds is probably OK, but do I really care about kettle additions and a double dry hop process? I didn't know that DC Brau has a pilsner, I'll try that one, hopefully heavier on the hops and lighter on the German style.

I have little patience with craftbrews myself - most of them are too sweet or are infused with odd flavours (yes, I am very strongly of the 'don't-fruit-the-beer' persuasion). Just give me a proper Central or East European lager - a Lowenbrau, Tyskie, Cesis, A. LeCoq, Kobanyai or something in that neighbourhood and I'm quite content.

Maybe they are all fine, but they read like that catalog from the Seinfeld show, overly wordy to justify the high price. Just off a buck and give me a basic IPA or lager.

These are all pretty standard and more importantly all local. And the reason that they are so expensive isn't because of a description, but basically because you're in a ballpark and they have you over a barrel.

That peppercorn saison is fantastic, and is probably one of 3 Stars signature beers. It doesn't taste like black pepper but it does have just a little bite to it, so it's super crisp, which is kind of unusual in a saison.

The craft brew industry in DC is booming and people go out of their way for the local stuff, either because some of the local breweries have an almost cult-like following or because people don't like putting money in InBev's pocket.  Looks like the Nats are trying to reach out to that market too. If you like craft beer, it really sucks when there's nothing but Bud and Bud  Light (cough cough Tradition Field).

Some of those descriptions are a little pretentious but they do tell you what you can expect in the beer, and when you're paying $11 or whatever for a beer you've never heard of before, it's nice to be able to pick one that you have good odds of actually liking. Those two IPA's are really different; my husband would love one and hate the other so those descriptions would help me pick the right one.
