They'll catch up with you eventually.

My mom died at 50. My daughter was born 3 years later with the same first name as my mom, but a different middle initial. AARP spent -years- trying to get her to sign up.

AARP website cleary indicates that you have to be 50. So, I just now tried to join  -  with a fake name, fake address, and fake year of birth (2000).   They flagged the address - so I put in a real address (not mine). Age didn't get flagged.  took me to a billing page.  Obviously I'm not going to give billing information (real or fake) so I don't know at what point in the process the age would get flagged, if ever.

I'm not disputing you that you have to be 50 to join. Just noting that they seem to have some major flaws in their system for tracking people, and as they get money from people who pay it to them, have an incentive to not look too closely.

No, I'm not saying you have to.  It appears likely that they state it as a requirement and then don't enforce it. As you say, they're happy to get your money no matter your age.

If I understand it correctly, you can be an associate member if you are under 50. This basically means you are supporting their efforts with your dues. I think you get benefits, but not at same level as full members.

Huh, how about that, I never knew I had anything other than the full AARP membership. To be fair, I only use it for buying airfare and the occasional hotel discount (I can usually get a better rate by prepaying direct with the hotel). Looks like the big difference is you can't buy insurance through AARP's group until you're 50 (or 49 1/2).

I have had AARP since I turned 50; don't seem to use it for much.  But just renewed it anyway for another 5 years.  Sometimes I get a free donut at Dunkin Donuts with my coffee.  The hotel discounts are good but sometimes you can find others just as worthwhile.

I would take that.

I am also totally comfortable with pissing in a bottle/can.

$10.50 for beers? Holy freak. Not only expensive but inconvenient. How greedy can an old man be?

Absurd...And the e-cash system wasn't even working, so that couldn't even soften the blow a bit...

It worked for me both times I tried, but they did say there were problems with it.  Have you tried putting money in your account?

 :)

It was another opening day fiasco - SNAFU.

Situation normal is correct. The article says that the lines were the worst ever at the ballpark. I find that hard to believe, the lines are bad every opening day, the lines were bad during the playoffs. Nats Park has capacity issues every time there is more than 30k fans.

I'm just glad I left out the side and didn't get caught in that mess in centerfield.

I am amazed at these people who think the Nats are going to get a handle on food and drink sales.  But it's not entirely on the Nats because there simply isn't the capacity to feed 41k people in a timely manner and since the Nats allow people to bring in food and water there is no excuse for getting caught up 30 minute long lines. When we go we always bring in a soft sided cooler and load it with chicken or subs or whatever and screw the lines and the high prices. That way I can justify paying Lerner prices when the beer vendor comes along.  :mg:

It's just like the airlines...they got you where they want you and can do pretty much as they bloody well please.

That having been said though, I'll agree that price is rather stiff. In British currency USD10.50 = GBP8.44 at current rates - which is about twice what normal pub pints (about 19oz) cost over there on my most recent trip (November/December 2016).

Must be a nuisance for the in-stand vendors (do they still have these? I wasn't there yesterday) to have to make all that change - not like the $9 days when you could just add a $1 tip to the price for a perfect $10 round-number payment.

So is $2 expected on a $10 beer?

The new Devil's Backbone stand at 301 had one line being served.  I like their Vienna Lager, but not enough to wait 30 minutes for one.
