Dusty can eat crap and pound sand. He's lucky the owners were both dumb and cheap enough to give him a managing job.

Baker is the best manager we've had, he's the second one in a short history to go public with a contract dispute, and this team can't keep running through managers every two years.

The Learners don't want to give him an extension and then fire him with a year left on his deal when he misses the playoffs, ala Matt Williams...

Hard to believe we are only one season removed from The Big Intern...

Are you kidding me? Coming off a division win our manager is having to go public with his contract dispute.

Look, Davey Johnson was Manager of the Year 2012 and we were all calling for him to be fired in 2013.  Matt Williams was Manager of the year 2014 and we were all calling for his head in 2015.  Dusty Baker was almost Manager of the year 2016. Now it's 2017.  I can understand a bit of hesitance on the part of the owners to extend him.

Regardless of whether the Lerners are being cheap or prudent (it's cheap), the team manager taking a contract dispute public is not a good thing.

Baker shoulder have been managing last year, much less getting an extension.

MASN replayed today the Milwaukee game that went 16 innings a few years ago.     Lots of old faces   ....    On topic:    Missus calls me cheap.    I tell her I'm thrifty.

They're morons if they think that being successful in one year leads to failure in the next.  Just try to prove causation on that one.

Or maybe the good play last year had little or nothing to do with Dusty?

It's all conjecture.

I would say that the performances you cited in 2012-2015 under different managers shows that the manager has little impact. I mean if Matt Williams was that bad a manager does that mean they would have won even more games in 2014. I doubt it. I don't think the difference between a good and bad manager is more than 2-3 games a year. If we were talking about not extending Joe Madden that would be something.

Please show me what I said.  I'm not familiar with this line of conversation, but maybe I've forgotten.

I was simply saying that success one year doesn't guarantee success the next year.  They don't want to extend Dusty based on one year of success.  If we are equally successful this year I expect they'll extend him (or try to).  If it were up to me I'd extend him now.

In fairness, Dusty has decades of success as a Major League manager.  The ONLY thing missing from his resume to make him a guaranteed Hall of Famer is a World Series title.  So it wouldn't exactly be based on one year of success.  Also, a good argument could be made that Dusty's philosophy of giving his starters more rest kept the team healthier last season.  Dusty isn't exactly a no-name second-year manager following one great season.

Yeah but so did Davey Johnson. Davey had great success in 2012, and by 2013 he was too old and too tired. Could happen to Dusty too.

He's now 0-9 in clinching games. Dusty needs to go while we still have a window to win.

That can't be right...how did the 2003 Cubs make it to the NLCS, and how did the 2002 Giants make it to the WS?

I agree...he seems to be a very decent human being and committed to his craft and his team, if nothing else.

I'd like to see him succeed for his own sake.  Can't say that I ever felt that way about another Coach / Manager other than Trotz.  This year may be the last real chance Rusty or Trotz ever get...

Casey Stern just basically said "LAC" on Inside Pitch (XM 89 - MLB Network Radio).  He said that he would be really upset at the way the Nationals organization is run (were he a Nats' fan).  We have no excuse for running the franchise this way and we are in the same financial bracket as the Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs, Dodgers, etc.

At least he got to 9 clinching games.  Matt didn't get to one.
