JZ ended the first half with a  5.87 ERA.  He gets his first start since July 7 tonight.
I just don't get it. Did Rizzo see this coming? I have a close friend who is a Tigers fan. He used to give me crap for us signing Max. When they signed JZ I told him that he would be really pleased as he was a competitor and wouldn't miss Max.
As I have posted ad nauseum here I always felt Rizzo knew that JZ wouldn't re-sign here and bought Max as an insurance policy. Probably sold the Lerners on that to get the deal approved. Probably not the primary reason but at least in the top five.

Blake Treinen has pitched two scoreless innings of relief so far for the A's.  Only given up one walk.  No hits.  1 K.

so, pick him up for $1 in a dynasty league thinking they'll give him a shot at closing?

BTW, what the heck happened to JZim? Looks like his walk rates have gone through the roof.

Sad news: Looks like Morse may be looking at retirement. This is after the concussion he suffered during the Harper-Strickland brawl.

The sudden declines of both Zimmermann and Clippard (to an extent) are kind of depressing to watch.

It looks like the ChiSox are going to try Clippard at closer.  Brilliant if they can straighten him out and flip him.

Wilson Ramos just left the O's-Rays game after Reuben Tejada's  bat shattered and the barrel (about 3/4 of the bat) smashed Willy in the head. I hope he's ok. Won't be surprised to see him on the concussion list. Also won't be surprised if he needs stitches.  Poor Buffalo :(

ETA: he needs 6 staples in his scalp

Desmond to the DL with a strained calf. Guess we won't see him this weekend.

I have too much free time and a fast internet connection. And my husband works for AT&T so we get all the DirectTV we want, for free, so we have 14635524 channels.

Thanks dcpatti.    Enjoyed the article but added one minor edit.

"As I jogged to the mound, I took it all in — back in a major league stadium, pitching for a World Series contender.

My first pitch that night was a strike. All systems go.

Here’s what happened next:

Double.
Single.
Steal.
Walk.
Sac fly.
Single.
Single.
Walk.
Sac fly.
Walk.*
Walk.
Triple.
Single.
To say nothing of what I did to mitlen's GDT."

Nick Pivetta looking good today. I am still trying to figure out how a guy whose fastball sat at 91-93 in the minors with the Nats has now increased to 95-97. He is the anti Giolito.
