FWIW, in any trade, history will be the judge of it. The rest is speculation.
Yes, as with all trades. I was never impressed with little Gio from his MLB debut so I think he won't be missed. Lopez on the other hand had a higher upside and he will be the key to determining whether we won or lost this trade. Eaton plays C'/F in 2017 and possibly '18 while Robles learns his position. Who takes Werths place next year? That is why I would like to see Revere re- signed for at least this year at around 4Mil. We paid more for McLouth.

Hey, read Mitlen's posts....don't get too excited yet.... :hang:

We got a major league CF in exchange for virtually nothing...AND WE GET RID OF DANNY!

How can I not be excited...

Cool   ....   one commentator said Espinosa's probably on the phone to his agent now.

Maybe someone will be stupid enough to give up a RP flyer for Danny?

Where in here do you see anyone making excuses for Giolito?

Me. Still a believer. Guess that makes one.

Sorry but Cutch would have been a better move than this

I'm still skeptical about a possible decline. We will find out.

As for this trade, that's major overpay so I'm guessing rizzo is feeling some pressure from Lerners. Without a top tier closer like Jansen or chapman, this trade becomes worse.

He agent likely doesn't want to accept the call...

Means he's gone...

Read it differently. You know I'd be the first to celebrate that day!

Eaton is basically our version of Jason Heyward when Chicago paid 180 million for him. And we get Eaton for 5 years and 38 million.

Losing Lopez might sting but you have to give to get.

Crap trade. That pitching for a 5-8 center fielder? Giolito is far from done and Lopez has a gifted arm. Rizzo got used.

MLB TV guy made the same observation.    The point is spot on.     We got Eaton instead of Heyward.    I like that.

I know it's Atlanta but it's in the second half when they were raking. Going to miss those curves and the constant 98.

we need great years from harper, stras, and rendon to compete with the elite of this league. considering those guys were more hyped than anyone we just traded away. we need them to live up to their full potential

Rendon needs to really step it up.  He should be hitting 3rd with Murphy protecting Harper and hitting 5th.  Move Werth to 6th.

I think he just has to stay completely healthy, or as healthy as humanly possible, for a full season.  I have my doubts that this can happen.

This is a much better deal than trading a .314 hitter last year for a bag of peanuts.

Rizzo may actually be starting to figure this GM thing out...

I love to see young pitching develop so it's hard to see Giolito and Lopez go. But I suspect the Nats had soured on Gio. Otherwise, there's no way they let both he and Lopez go.
