The last MLBer named Sheldon was in 1980. There've only been 3 MLB Sheldons.

Still don't understand the drop in velocity.

Sitting 94, even with a 70 curveball but with a 45 changeup, is a #4 in today's MLB. That's my #hottake.

Either needs to find that velo, add a full grade to the CH, or find 60 command to be a # 3. Needs two of those to be a #2. All three and he's an ace.

I'd still trade him for Sale in a heartbeat

Right, I totally agree. Maybe I didn't add the part where it's easier said than done to find velo, add a grade to a pitch, or find a bunch of extra command. I'd trade him for sure if you found someone willing to take him as the major piece in a deal for a superstar.

My guess is that Robles has replaced Giolito as the prospect everyone asks for in trades.

I was trying to find someone whose profile resembled Giolito's on Fangraphs.

Lucas Giolito
71% fastballs (93.4)
18% curveballs (80.2)
11% changeups (83.6)

Carlos Rodon
64% fastballs (93.4)
26% sliders (86.7)
10% changeups (83.6)

Both have current/future grades of 60/70 on their breaking pitches, 45-50/55 on their changeups (Giolito's slightly lower on the current grade), and 45/50 on their command.

The difference is that Giolito was supposed to have a 65/70 fastball while Rodon's is a 55/60. And what we saw from Giolito season 1 was more like a 55/60.

Rodon has put up 3.75 and 4.04 ERAs while having some issues around walks and HRs. I don't think we've seen enough stuff/command from Giolito to expect differently.

So yeah, I'd put him up for a trade involving us getting back a superstar.

Personally still high on a lot of guys in the system, but realistically not seeing them getting more than a 40/45 FV. Guys like Gutierrez, Franco, the Orange, Drew Ward. Still some talent, but the system has taken a major hit.

What does it say about the system and Fedde that he's 2d on the lists?

fedde's pretty good.  he was #75 coming into this year and with his solid performance, good peripheral, and more innings under his belt since TJ, he should be top 50 overall.

I'm more worried about what it says when none of the top 5 prospects have played more than a half-season above single-A.

They seem real late to the game on Soto. Personally, he's ahead of Neuse.

I say Robles, Fedde, Kieboom, then Soto. Not so set after thst. Stevenson and Vote maybe next.

The guy I'm curious about next year is Tyler Watson. He's done very well so far in his year plus in pro ball. It's time to see if he's been able to add some bulk and velocity. Could be a guy that jumps up pretty high from his current standing if there is some physical development.

There's talent left in the system, just the raw kind and multiple years away. And at such a lower level or age to truly expect them to become something special.

I like Watson too. Lefty, tall, and results early after being a HS pick. Good point!

also strictly on upside, Luzardo could be higher.  I suspect he will jump up onto top prospect lists once he returns from TJ rehab.

check out Daniel Johnson.  has an 80 speed grade, 70 arm, and 60 defense, albeit with only 45s for hitting and power.  He could be an eye to keep an eye on, probably as Hagerstown's centerfielder in 2017.
