That's the key point.  I don't think you play for best odds of winning the next two, you play for best odds of winning game 4 because if you don't win game 4, game 5 doesn't matter.  Pitching Kershaw gives them the best odds of winning today.  If they win today then they can worry about Thursday.   Roberts will be in Showalter's boat if he loses game 4 while his best pitcher sits on the bench.

I'll never be convinced that that argument is rational.  That's just managing with your heart and cliches.  You have go with the option that gives you the best chance to win the series or win the game, not the best chance to extend the series or extend the game and then hope for the best.

I suppose the argument is a little more sound if you think that Kershaw is going to be just as good today as he would be on Thursday, but I don't think any of the data includes pitching on 3 days rest when he didn't play in July and August, and is still ramping up his pitch count.

So was our pen. You can bet those guys will be will be available in a game like this.

They'll be available, sure, but will they be any good? Don't forget we have Lopez, Perez, Scrabble and Treinen, none of which pitched yesterday. Ollie and Scrabble obviously lefties but Lopez, a righty, might as well be a lefty--- lefties have a .192 BAA when facing Lopez, and he can eat some innings, so long as he's on a short leash. We hung 4 runs on their bullpen last night and this is all the same guys, just more tired.

It's a "fire all your bullets" night and we gots more bullets. They have one very big gun but when that's removed from the equation, we've got the advantage. .

Case in point Jansen who is definitely cooked and I'd Imagine off-limits tonight, given his workload and struggles just in this series.

Can't remember the last time I was not sweating "if we don't get the lead by 8th, were toast."  Today is the day to win.

That would probably better stated by saying that 1924 was the last time a DC baseball team won a postseason series.

Key to this game is going to be getting Kershaws pitch count up early. Harper and Werth are going to get long at bats to chase out Kershaw.

Dusty once again putting Espinosa 7th and tying our hands behind our back. If we lose the series he shouldn't even get on the plane back.

So Rusty double switches for him before he bats for the second time?  That would make Rusty the hero...

Top 8th:  Bases loaded, Espi up and gets HBP to score the go-ahead run...
