Because finding a 2+ WAR shortstop is very difficult.

Trea Turner. 6+ WAR next year. Sign Cespedes and say freak defense. They did when they put Trea out there in tryout camp

I was afraid of this. Espinosa's suckitude is contagious   Leadoff double and then no one can put the damn ball in play.

.500/.500./.750.... 1.250 OPS in last 4 ABs.   Extend Zimmerman?

We tried freak defense in 2015 and finished 7 games out of the division.  We valued defense in 2016 and will clinch mid sept.

Anyone who realistically thought AJ Cole could beat Syndergaard is a maroon.  At least that's what tomorrow's newspaper headline told me this morning.

Leadoff walk to the pitcher. What could possibly go wrong here?

Tire him out on the basepaths and pound him deep next inning.

isn't a 2 WAR shorstop technically replacement level?

Only Espinosa, who has lowered the bar, gets that sort of special dispensation.

No. That would give him 15th highest WAR of all 69 players who have played the SS position this season, and 12th amongst all qualified (23)
