What a fiasco with Kathy Lanier NOT throwing out the first pitch.   :-[ :-[ :-[  She is announced and escorted to the mound, ball in hand.  Nice round of applause from the fans.  The escort leaves, and there she is on the mound, ready to go, but the 4 umpires  are standing around home plate chatting and nobody ever came out to take the pitch.  After standing alone about 3-4 minutes  on the mound, the Nats took the field, Scherzer took the ball from her and she walked off without ever making the pitch.  What an embarrassment.

She was just delivering the game ball. The first pitch took place 10-15 minutes prior -  Chief Lanier escorted a young shooting victim who beat major odds to survive and the kid threw the first pitch. They always do the ceremonial first pitch as part of the pregame ceremonies, not when the team takes the field.

The young victim got a nice round of applause.   The Chief was widely applauded when she was shown on the big screen at her seat.

She's likely more upset that after 9-1/2 years, some people in the DMV still can't spell her name...
