Update on Joey Marmelade:

Quote
Marmolejos returned from a non-throwing forearm strain that required a 60-day DL stint on the 12th, and he has a hit each day since then. He’s got terrific bat-to-ball skills and is a good defensive first baseman but is blocked, not only at the big-league level by a resurgent Ryan Zimmerman, but at Triple-A by veteran Clint Robinson. He probably lacks the power to play every day, but it looks like he’s going to hit enough to merit a bench spot.

Yeah, I have some decent hope that he just carries his power with him or slightly improves it over time. It's not like he has zero power, he just hits a lot of doubles instead of a ton of home runs. The guy had 63 extra base hits last year in 579 plate appearances. I hadn't heard about his good defense however. Maybe he'll be our Mark Grace.

Left Field is where you put 1st basemen when they are blocked and you don't have a DH spot.  May as well see if he can handle the position.

Wouldn't call him blocked at AAA yet. Check out Clint's season thus far.

With Heisey gone, I would like to see Lind in LF on Werth's days off.

my thinking as well. He obviously is a very acconplished hitter already. I would like to see him get a shot if Heisey is oit for awhile.

Having seen him look only average at 1B, I'd be very surprised if he could play LF decently.  But good instincts and quick reactions can often make up for lack of raw footspeed, so perhaps I'm wrong.

Yes, and then trade him for a closer!

Putting up monster numbers at Fresno this year. I wonder if Zimm’s injury opens the door for him.

Everyone rakes in the PCL. That being said, his wRC+ is 132, so 32 percent above average.

I think they'd be hesitant with three other guys on the bench who can play first base and no one to back up short stop
