Follow the prospects: Greg Ross
« Topic Start: June 19, 2016, 10:36:51 AM »
Greg Ross came up to Harrisburg (AA) from Potomac in May and has started 3 games, won them all, pitched 7 shutout innings in them all, and of course his ERA is 0.00. His WHIP is 0.71. What's the catch?  He's 26 and I guess he can't be a prospect. But last night he faced the Reading Phillies team, which had a record of 49 and 19 and had won 11 straight. He hurled a 3-hitter.  :icon_question:

looks like he was in the Braves organization, made it to AA in 2014 with decent numbers, then took a step back repeating AA last year (ERA went from 2.08 to 3.99, K rate was 5.2 / 9,  BB rate was 3/9) so ATL left him off the 40 man roster and I think he walked as a MiLFA.  Still not a great K rate, but he's knocked down the BBs so his K/BB is closer to 2014 than 2015.  HE is from Baltimore and went to Frostburg, so there is a local angle on him.

Just noticed that Ross pitched another game since I first posted. Another 7 innings and no runs.  That's 28 innings for Harrisburg with an ERA of 0.00 and WHIP of 0.82.  Doing work.

Ross throws another 7-inning complete game shutout (Harrisburg playing a doubleheader).
He's pitched 41 innings there, is 4-1 and has a 0.44 ERA. He's 26-27 but still an interesting prospect.

Looks like an extreme pitch-to-contact guy. Got through 7 innings in his last start and only threw 82 pitches with 3 Ks.

Have to wonder how that will hold up above the AA level.

I'm sure he has his doubters. I like guys who perform "over their head", guys like Tanner Roark. They're just players, talent or otherwise.  We promote too many who don't perform.

If nothing else the Nats can take batting practice from him. These are the guys we can't touch.

He's a 27 y.o in AA... Just saying. I'm sure the scouting dept. talks daily with minor league coaches. If there was really something there, he'd get some looks. Either way, congrats to Greg for having a great season!
