I remember 2005 well - the Nats were coming off a three-match sweep of the Cubs at Wrigley...next day came the Fourth of July and a disastrous home series against the Mets, beginning with a 5-2 loss on the Fourth and losses in three of the four matches in that series...a bitter blow from which the '05 Overachievers never recovered.

Yep.  Went 50-31 for the first half of the season, which ended July 3, then went 31-50 in the second half.     Finished last in the division at 81-81.   

The heroics of Hector Carrasco and Rick Short weren't enough to overcome Nick Johnson's heal and all the rest.
