Roughly $90K saved (underslot) on Kieboom and Bogucki. Still haven't seen an official # on Luzardo, but if it's $764K overslot, that leaves a lot of work to be done with the other draftees.

I wouldn't worry. They wouldn't have the Luzardo deal out there if they didn't have a plan they could put into action. They wouldn't open themselves up to a Astros situation. Pretty certain they'll save on the Dunning deal, and I believe the 9th and 10th rounders were college seniors, that don't have much leverage.

I have no doubts with them being under the bonus pool. It will be close though. I was just hoping to have a little left over to offer to the 11-40 JuCo/HS guys

The only one who brings any real intrigue is Armond Upshaw and maybe Jarrett Gonzales. Kids taken in the 30's that aren't at a 4 year school rarely sign. If the team felt they had a real chance at signing them or were very talented, they would've taken them earlier. Upshaw and Gonzales were taken high enough to indicate real talent and a possibility of signing. But, I do not believe either are so talented that they are looking for over slot money. $100k is a solid bonus for guys taken in the 11-15 rounds, so it really shouldn't take more to get them taken. Maybe they find a way to pull out another $25k to get Upshaw in the fold, but it's not like they'll need to pry another $500k to get him in the fold. Gonzales in the 19th, $100k should more than suffice if he is interested in signing.

While that's true (that most HS guys don't sign), it's tempting to try and flip a college commitment. In recent history, the HS pick I can think of is Skye Bolt (A+ name  ). The Nats were unable to sign him, and he ended up having a solid college career, and was picked in the 4th round.

In this year's draft, there's a couple 11-40 picks I'd like. Upshaw is a crazy athlete. Really want to see if he can make it as a baseball player. Cooper Morgan, as Houston has said, has some really potential, but is a college junior. Could always go back if the money's not right. Jordan McFarland has good size, and Noah Murdock's even bigger (6'7" RHP -- he could add a couple MPH to the FB as he puts on weight). I'm unsure about the Gonzales picks.

Not a great start so far:

.227/.321/.409, which includes 4 3B in 17 games. 7 BB/24 K

Hasn't played in a week, either. Maybe he's banged up?

I'll see what I can find

It's early.

No doubt

Not worried at all. Kid's first go-round in pro ball. Being a 1st rounder, he'll get chances to fail for years ha.

Kieboom returned on 7/31, 6 hits in his last 15 ABs with just 1K and 1BB.  No home runs yet.  I'm guessing he starts next year at Hagerstown.

11 XBHs, though. Hopefully that gap power develops a bit and some of those shots start getting over the fence.

  • The one true ace
probably Rendon's replacement

that's what i'm thinking.  Trade Rendon for a good piece or prospects to flip when Kieboom is ready.

Once we sign Machado for 2019 we can either shift Rendon to 2B or trade him for a closer.

Kieboom suffered a leg injury last night. Nature, severity not yet known. Article says possibly hamstring. https://www.milb.com/milb/news/washington-nationals-prospect-carter-kieboom-suffers-apparent-right-leg-injury/c-229983982/t-185364810

Kerr reported he's on the 7 day DL, no timetable for a return.
