They might be too proud to sell Miller. They're gonna wanna move Chapman as he is walk year.
I'm somewhat proud that I don't know who "Mateo" is. I assume he's the next Ricky Ledee, Ruben Rivera, Eric Duncan, or Jesus Montero - someone the New York media bigs up to be a megastar since the time he's in single-A who turns out to be a AAAA player. When did the Yankees farm system last produce a very good player outside of the bullpen (theirs or anyone else's)?
But that's enough NYY talk.
Suppose Lopez's tryout goes well, or they regain confidence in Giolito. Suppose also that Gonzalez pitches like an average MLB starter Wednesday and doesn't have another bad start before 7/31. Does he become a tradeable asset with his option for next year? Pitching throughout baseball has been rough this year, so we may underestimate Gio's value.
They said during the game last night that Miller had been told he's up for grabs,
Suppose Lopez's tryout goes well, or they regain confidence in Giolito.
Robinson Cano, and to a lesser extent, Brett Gardner (29.1 career WAR). Mateo is a very good prospect but is only in high-A. But that's enough NYY talk. Blackmon would be a pretty good fit.
Rosenthal:
where does that leave Revere?
Syracuse.
Back to Philly.
He's tradeable, but you're selling low. You also have to have a plan for when Lopez and Giolito hit their innings limits.
Would love to add Blackmon has our CF and leadoff! But what is the cost gonna be? I can't imagine it's gonna be cheap.I'm guessing at least one of Giolito, Lopez, Fedde.
Blackmon is having a career year and would be under team control for two more seasons. That doesn't come cheap but it still wouldn't cost Giolito. No one in baseball is dumb enough to even ask about Giolito outside of the context of a monster deal and Blackmon wouldn't qualify.
Ok then maybe Fedde plus other pieces?
I think an argument can be made for Cervelli. It took a while for him to get a full time chance, but he was very good last year, good in part time in 2014, and good this year prior to getting hurt. He does not have the huge WAR totals yet, but 1500 PAs and a career OBP around .360 makes him with good defense makes him a nice package.
First thing you gotta look at with a Rockie is home/away splits. His away numbers are solid but far less impressive than home.
Boswell yesterday:"DO NOT TOUCH, at any price, either Charlie Blackmon or Carlos Gonzalez of Colorado. They are among the most extreme Coors Creations that I've ever seen. They are absolutely mediocre hitters (or below mediocre) away from Denver and its mile-high launching pad.Blackmon's career OPS in Coors is .894 -- a near super-star. Career OPS away from Coors is .677 -- a bum. This year isn't quite as extreme -- .856 vs .790. But on-base % away from Coors this year is .346, not much better than Revere's career OBP. Stay away."
Does Boswell actually read anyone else's work? There have been multiple articles about how the "Coors field effect" is a product of making hitters look good at home as they adjust to less break, and look terrible away as balls break more. Good hitters will still hit outside that environment as the adjust to other parks.
