Roark's inability to miss bats is what lost him the game. He couldn't smoke Grandal or make him chase a ball out of the zone and fouled off bad strikes off until he got one he liked and destroyed it. I wouldn't call his fastball above average except on days that his 2 seamer has good life on it which is about once every five games. He did start out with nice runback on it early in the game then around the 6th inning, it started to go back to how it is most of the time. Straight as an arrow and waiting to get blasted into the cheap seats. I like his mental process and the ways he attacks batters, he's a very poor mans greg maddux, but he is far from a legit #3 pitcher. A good 4 or 5 sure. Roark is a finesse pitcher because he can't simply reach back and blow it by a batter or doesn't have a wipeout slider or any other devastating strikeout pitch. Gio has better stuff than him, but does more with less because Gio is a damn head case.
