Meh, Yescobar was a double play machine. He got on base a lot but if he didn't get on, he got himself out along with the guy in front of him. I wish we had gotten more for him, and I loved watching him play-- such animation!!-- but I don't think hanging on to him would have really been a long-term net gain.

I loved Yuni and wish him well, he is just a guy that can hit for average, no pop, no speed. and a ground ball machine, we are better off in the long-term

Betances is under team control for 4 years, so he's not going anywhere.  Chapman's a FA at the end of the year, so he would be a rental.

If one of the lefties (Miller, hypothetically, or Rivero) is going to close, I have no problem with adding another southpaw to the pen.

Miller will be expensive as freak, though. Another 2 years of pretty cheap closer pay, he's a complete stud, and there will be a bidding war.

With all the hard throwers in the system, I'm loathe to give up a big building block to get an ace closer.  Chapman would be the cheapest of the NYY 3.  I just wonder if the crowd that is upset with Papelbon's "clubhouse presence" will be all that happier with an woman abuser.

If he's posting up the same numbers as last year and blows the occassional save, no one will give a crap.

The issue with Papelbon isnt off the field or clubhouse cancer stuff. He was on successful teams despite that. Its that he can't get batters out and that's all I give a crap about in a closer. Everyday players I can understand needing to be good guys in the clubhouse. Even long relievers and starting pitchers. But not the closer. Send him to the bullpen and wake him up in the bottom of the 7th.

Get outs, that's all I want from my closer.

My goodness.  This guy was supposed to be awesome.  When we got him we were discussing the possibility of him being a closer.  Right now he's getting shelled beyond belief in AAA.  In his last game he gave up 5 hits, 3 runs without recording an out.   His ERA is 4.35 in AAA.  He's 24 years old?  He's a total bust I guess.

IIRC he was injured early on.  Looking at his last ten appearances in Syracuse, he threw 10.2 innings with a 4.22 ERA, all of those runs coming in two appearances.  1BB, 10Ks, 13 hits.  Prior to his last two outings, his ERA was down to 3.47.
