The Washington Nationals had five aces in their rotation last year.

I think Betances could wear down this year because of his workload the last 2 years, but Miller and Chapman should be elite barring injury and Betances certainly should be dominant. Will be fun to watch for sure.
Except that this move will  make it easier to reduce his workload. He's not going to be given the ball in the 7th with 1 out and told to get to the 9th.

http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/mlb/488371/report-os-white-sox-leaders-for-cespedes?ls=roto:NYM:topheadlines

Quote
MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez reports that the White Sox and Orioles are "emerging as leaders for now" in the chase for free agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

Sanchez also ticks off the Angels and Giants as suitors for Cespedes' services. Not mentioned, the Mets, who fell off the map earlier this month after offering the 30-year-old outfielder a reported token deal of two or three years. Cespedes is likely looking for something closer to a six-year, $100 million contract. He was a monster in August and September, socking 17 homers and 44 RBI in 57 games for the Mets after being dealt from the Tigers.

Orioles allegedly not in on Cespedes, according to another source:

People on the White Sox board I also post on are pretty excited about Cespedes already, but the Giants are supposed to be in the hunt too

What is the thought on how he will age?  high K rates (20+% Ks), high power, far above average O-swing rate but near average contact rate the past couple of years (within .6%).

Most people predict badly, but it's so hard to predict when.

Please let that happen.  The Padres are my new favorite train wreck to watch and seeing Ean Desmond strikeout at Petco would be awesome.

What about seeing him hit it to the warning track?  He's hit some monster shots, but they aren't all monster shots.  Turn five of his homers into flyouts, and what does that do to his OPS?

Doesn't matter. The Nats will still get the comp pick in the same place as it would be if a team with an unprotected pick signed him.

Eh, not quite. If the pick is not protected, it's taken away, thus moving up our compensation picks.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/stewart-dbacks-wont-sacrifice-another-draft-pick-for-free-agent-signing.html

can someone explain why this makes sense to me? I'd think that teams would do the opposite- i.e. the cost attached to each subsequent signing is less than the prior signing, so if you're going to give up one pick you might as well give up several

It helps if you take every Diamondbacks move and assume it makes the OPPOSITE of sense.
