Papelbon is a lowlife scumbag douchebag.  But it's not like the Yankees haven't had those. ARod, for example?
What evidence do you have that Rodriguez is a "lowlife scumbag douchebag?"

I guess the fact that he's been caught redhanded in a number of lies might speak to that.

Me - I don't mind him...in fact, I thought he did a great job as a commentator during the postseason.  I'd like to see him make that a second career...

He's lied about peds- that doesn't exactly place him in a small pool

As far as the clubhouse goes

I'll have an updated report on my offseason plan before I go to bed tonight.  It'll be late.

Scherzer plus paps
I think you're only half joking.  That deal might make sense, especially for the Red Sox.

A lowlife anyway.  Papelbon is lower down on the food chain, but only by degrees.

Huge difference between those two. Papelbon is an over-the-hill closer and A-Rod was a generational player. He's an exception to the rule, but not really.

Not to mention, most of A-Rod's teammates love him, especially these days. He's considered a great teacher and baseball guy. Self-centered, sure, but not a bad teammate.

Yup. I think Jets was the only guy that ever had an issue with him, and that was because A-Rod was better than him at SS (which I think caused that whole riff -- Jeter was never going to give up his position).

We're stuck with Papelbon and Storen duking it out over who can beat the single season record for blown saves.  This season will be a total debacle unless we have a roster overhaul that matches the coaching overhaul.

My thought exactly.  Overhaul is required

Escobar/Papelbon for a couple middle relievers

Strasburg/Storen to the Dodgers for a package that begins with Urias.

Still need to figure out how to get and where to play that left handed bat

Can a mod change the name of this thread to ZDK's wheeling, dealing traphouse?

ZDK, could you please figure out a trade for CarGo without touching Giolito and Turner?

Figure it out, then email Rizzo. DO IT. DO IT NOW.

It could be done easily.  I don't think CarGo is a good buy.  He'd cost a lot and has bad home/road splits and bad lefty/righty splits.  I'd rather get Dickerson.  If he stays healthy, he'll have a very bright future.

If the Rockies would take something like Fedde, Cole, Lopez, Severino for CarGo, then id do it.  The Rockies probably perceive him as having too much value.

A guy who has good numbers at Coors Field and stinks everywhere else ... I wouldn't touch him.

My new plan:

Sign Cueto
Sign Kazmir

Rendon, Robles, Fedde, Lopez, Cole ->Trout

Strasburg, Storen -> Buxton, Burdi

Sign Matsuda.  He's lefty and plays third, hit 35 he last year in npb.

No. We need more bats, not fewer

This move would be coupled with

1.  Extending Strasburg 3 yr/$93M w/  4 $32M player options
2.  Extend Harper 15 yr/$525M ($35MAAV) w/ substantial performance encentives, backloaded so we can
Be dominant in his prime
3.  Signing Cueto 5 yr/$120M ($24MAAV) w/$24M vesting option.  I dig the dusty connection.
4.  Sign Greg Holland to a 3 yr/$24M deal (missing 2016 due to TJ)
4.  Trade Gio, Roark, Ross, Taylor, Storen, Papelbon, Werth, and any prospects except for Giolito and Turner for the following:

2 out of Trout, Buxton, Stanton, Yelich, Soler,

1 out of Miller, Chapman
1 of the Rangers available relievers (hopefully Kela, 2nd choice Tolleson)

Acquire a third baseman from the massive player shuffle, which will now be referred to as the MPS. Bryant, Donaldson, Gallo, Seager.  Or trade for Miggy, have him play 1st, and move Zimmerman back to 3rd.
Third baseman could also be Nobuhiro Matsuda, who reportedly could take just a two year deal.

Get a starting MI to go with turner.   Gordon, Kipnis, etc.

It's getting late and I'm losing my train of thought
