On our end, I've thought a Ruiz for Yoshida swap make sense .

Ruiz has negative value to any team trying to win.  He's not qualified to be a backup catcher, and the Red Sox know that.  If he were DFA'd and still wanted to play, he might get a minor league deal with someone, but no one is even trading a bad contract to get him.

I keep on saying that he can lower the Sox  CBT hit by $12 million this year when they are right up against the 2nd threshold. $12 million saved is enough to pay for Paredes's hit. Even if they think he's as bad as you think he is (and I'm not quite questioning that), they come out ahead doing the deal and then DFA'ng him before he sets foot in Fort Myers. Bigger problem is on the Nats end is whether they could use Yoshida for a couple of years and whether the accelerated payment stream (and  slight difference in the net present value of the payout stream) is enough to kill it. The Sox have just demonstrated in the Hicks deal they are willing to put in a pretty good prospect to cut the CBT hit. They'd have to wrap Yoshida with one to pull this off.

I can't see the Lerners, who love deferrals, taking the cash flow hit this year.  Agree that it could be an interesting way to trade bad contracts, but they wouldn't do this even if it made sense.

Unfortunately, I agree that it'd be a surprise move if they did it. I just look at that Hicks deal and wonder what sort of value the Sox would attach to lowering their CBT hit. (By the way, they are in the repeater tax brackets, so their cash in 2026 savings on Ruiz for Yoshida also includes 32% or so tax on the amount over the   first threshold, which is would be another $4 million on top of the $12 million or so).

Would have been huge if as part of a CJ Abrams deal. Oh well.

I think it might resurface in a couple months once Casas is back and if they think they could use even more offense. Mayer doesn't hit, Story hurt, Durbin has a bad start ...

Castellanos released by the Phils. There is no reason why we shouldn't pick him up. He has admitted some mistakes and apologized. He will only cosr the league minimum. He could play 1B and if he doesn't fit the new culture release him. If we were negotiating with Ryhs Hopkins I would rather have Nick and trade him at the deadline.

Dan Kolko is way to normal and scandal free to have Castellanos on this team.

Castellanos will have his pick of spots interested in him if he clears waivers and if Philly doesn't find a taker in trade before that. Nobody will claim him on waivers because they'd be stuck with his contract. Trade might be possible if  Philly eats some of his cost and sweetens things by attaching a prospect to  him.

Yea there are. Hes a 90 wRC+ that was a big enough clubhouse issue to get benched . There's no reason he should be taking at bats away from anyone on this team.

He’s another Rendon. Too many outside issues to be around young players. In other words he is such an jerk that the Phillies paid him $20M to freak right off.
