That is the ultimate win this season move, because after the 2016 season, the Nationals would have no pitching and no payroll to add anyone.

The only way I'm dealing Giolito is if I'm getting a young-ish gamechanger at a position of need, like center field. He's vital to the replacing Strasburg and Zimmermann plan.

Counterpoint: they've never had any good pitchers/pitching prospects. Will be interesting to see what happens to Jon Gray and Hoffman.

Edit: Jimenez, Hampton, and de la Rosa were just guys -- Jimenez being the best of 'em. I just don't think they've ever had an elite talent. Gray and Hoffman could be.

2010 Jimenez was a hell of a lot more than just a guy. He had some of the best stuff I've ever seen in person.

You're right, he did have great stuff. Probably why he's ended up playing multiple seasons after the Rox.

I know dealing trout would be borderline unthinkable. The Angels are trying to compete and a deal like this would fill a lot of their holes and free up additional payroll space for them
To sign a Cespedes, upton, Gordon, or whomever. This deal would have to get something started wouldn't it?

I don't think so. Trout is on a team favorable contract and there's a tendency of teams to put high end values on their own. I have not looked at their rotation lately so I don't know who Ross replaces / displaces. Both Rendon and Cargo have injury risk reputations, and Rendon is mostly just projectable upside rather than established like Trout. I don't see this as getting you in the door.
