 I didn't realize jerseys cost that much.

Same here? And I thought NFL jerseys were pretty dear?

So do we extend Baker?

http://www.masnsports.com/nationals-pastime/2016/12/when-will-nationals-extend-dusty-baker.html

No, 'cause we aren't going to the playoff's in 2017 anyway, and we'd just fire him with a year to go on his deal...

This team will be very lucky to even finish above .500...regardless of who the manager is...

Go to 1:23 in the video below. Maybe Rizzo is trying to make an even longer list?

I love Dusty and hope he is locked up long-term as the reports suggested today. Go get 'em Dusty!

Yes, with such a market for him and Schu and Henley, eight-year deals all around!

Posting this in the Fire Dusty Baker thread because it seems to be the most relevant but for the record I'm a Baker fan, I say Extend Dusty Baker.

On the other hand, his old school hitting technique that he is having his coaches hit might be holding the Nats back. The team is instructing players to swing the bat straight down like an axe while Daniel Murphy is leading the new trend towards swinging in an upwards loop.

Had Ted Williams smoked weed with Dusty, Dusty would be all uppercut now.  Williams had this all figured out in the Science of Hitting before Charlie Lau / Walt Hriniak and the other fools nearly destroyed a couple of generations.

How did Ted Williams team's do at the plate when he was managing? Was he able to effectively pass along his techniques?

I'll leave that one to the Senators nostalgia boys.  I'm pretty sure he won manager of the year once here, but overall he wasn't a great manager.  He used to do a lot of work with Red Sox hitters, but his advice conflicted with Hriniak in the 80s.

Exactly. Won manager of the year his first year, 1969, then pretty much lost interest and was a lousy manager after that.  But he improved the hitting of some players dramatically. Ed Brinkman is the best-known example: a perennial .180 hitter, Williams worked with him raised his average into the .260's.  Brinkman was an elite fielding shortstop, one of the best ever, so combining that with an average in th .260s made him an extremely valuable player (imagine Espinosa with a .260 average, and Brinkman was a much better defensive shortstop than Espinosa).  But it only lasted a couple seasons and then Brinkman's hitting reverted back.

I was surprised Dusty pinch-hit for Strasburg with two out in the seventh and only a runner on first when his pitch count was low. Al l credit to him, because putting Lind up won the game.

Not too surprising this early in the season, still ramping up. Plus the bullpen was fresh and has a day off.

bump-

Dusty Baker has been an incompetent hack at very stop along his managerial career.  Guy wins one pennant and he's considered a genius.  Couldn't manage a bullpen if he had Cincinnati's Nasty Boys, Rivera, Kimbrel and Gossage out there.

Now you all know how I personally feel about him.
