A win is good. Period.

Beating the Mets a couple times, and grinding their pitching...also good.

First time I saw Matt not get up when the woman says, "Thanks Matt."    He looks understandably tired.

Yeah, he's usually charging out of there as fast as he can.

Take one out of the next three so we have a winning record.  If we do it tomorrow, play the kids for the last two...

At the least, let Max out-pitch Harvey. Wear down all their pitchers. Gio starts tomorrow...always a bit chancy.

Nice :w: now at worst we will match 2005 with 81/81. I hope we can grab one (2 maybe?) from the Mets while they are "resting".

Gonna guess at least one rainout. 81-80, the flip of 2011, back when we were on the rise.  Symmetry can stink sometimes.

That would perhaps be one of my only pre-season correct predictions...not the record...but that we would not play a full 162 game slate.  There was a west coast nuance thrown in there too, but I'm going to ignore that...  ;)

2014 - 8th September (142nd match)
2013 - 17th September (151st match)
2005 - 28th September (159th match) - final win of season
2015 - 1st October (159th match)
---
2011 - finished 80-81
2007 - finished 73-89
2006 - finished 71-91
2010 - finished 69-93
2008 - finished 59-102
2009 - finished 59-103

The Braves announcers were in a meditative / thoughtful / look-to-the-future mood. Considering the Nats in 2016, Glavine observed:

- Nats might not be as strong on paper, but will be close. Losing Zimmermann will hurt, even though Roark is no slouch

- Need only a few tweaks, but need better luck with injuries. If Zimmerman and Werth are healthy, will have a strong lineup

- With the injuries this year, Rizzo got a chance to evaluate the young players and the bench. That will guide him in making improvements. (Impressed by Robinson; impressed by Taylor's fielding but not his hitting)

- Puzzled over Matt Williams. Won Manager of the Year and didn't suddenly get stupid. Had read Svrgula's latest article, which made a big impression. Camera showed Werth standing next to Williams; mentioned the takeaway line, without quoting it. (We know: "When do you think you lost the clubhouse?")

- Said the Nats had to get rid of the "bad apples" in the clubhouse. Immediately. "Our Braves teams won the division so often because we never had the number of injuries the Nats had this season and because if a player was not on the same page with Bobby Cox and the Braves way, they were gone quickly. Some were talented players...just not on our page for whatever reason..." Pretty clear.

Well we know one bad apple and he is surely gone. Who are the others?

Just throwing this out there, I've got nothing against the guy but what about Knorr? He wanted the managers job, seemed gracious in defeat when it went to Williams but that had to be a tough pill to swallow-what if subconsciously he kind of sabotaged Williams behind the scenes? The players all love him we know that, what if he was just a little too sympathetic when they'd come to nag about Williams? Human nature would kind of make him want to prove "you should've picked me" no? Or am I way off base?

I think Storen turned into a "bad apple" ..   maybe through little fault of his own.    I wonder if Werth sat and talked with Williams before he called him out?

Yeah the Svrugla story had to come straight from Werth or at least part of it.

No, Williams would have gone to Rizzo or something if that happened. But who knows? This team is surrounded in mystery.

This team has more excuses than a kid who forgot his homework.

The Papelbon trade.
The Scherzer signing.
The fans leaving early on Labor Day.
Etc.

Most of us agree that Williams blew at least one of those games up in New York but a good team bounces back after that. Instead they had the disastrous west coast road trip.  That's all on the players. The next manager has his work cut out with these guys.
