I don't know the defensive numbers, but I wonder how Escobar at SS compares to Jhonny Peralta? He's no wizard with the glove, but he can make the routine play and rake.
Peralta actually is pretty good, or was up to this year (I have not looked at his defensive stats this year so don't know). It's one of those "he's fat and doesn't dive so how can he be good" stereotypes but somehow he manages to turn balls hit to SS into outs. Positioning, hands, who knows?
