No to automated umpires. We have enough robots in this life..... Robots to check out your groceries, robots to call you and annoy you on the telephone,  robots to handle your customer service experience, etc.....One of the great things about baseball used to be that it seldom if ever changed. They brought in replay and replay sucks. Now robot umpires? No thanks. I'm fine with leaving the human element intact, even if mistakes are made.

I wonder about the over/under on this topic. I suspect folks over 65 are going to be super-anti robot and folks under 35 would be super-pro robot. There's got to be a median in there somewhere. 50 seems like a reasonable guess, maybe 55.

Yeah, I thought you were a bit outside the range, which is what made me think about the question. I'm sure there's someone here who's young but was raised in a really big baseball household that hates the idea of robots, as well. For the record, I'm mid-40's and am very pro-robot. My wife is mid-40's and was strongly anti-robot but after watching the strike zones and listening to the announcers this post-season, she's undecided, but leaning towards pro-robot.

My gut says the perspective split is 'Tradition is important,' vs. 'This is a fixable problem.'

I'm fine if they would just fix egregious mistakes.  If a ball is called with the whole ball inside the strike zone, or a strike is called where it is more than a full ball outside, buzz down and correct it.   Surely, they have the technology for that to be 100% accurate.

Human interaction is overrated. Robots bring the perfect order we seek in life.
