Sure, a lot of things would not have happened as quick as they did with the Beatles but to say there were the best ever is just wrong. Were they good? Sure. Best ever? No.
It's hard to compare them to other groups who stayed together longer since they had a shorter run but I still think they were the best ever. Who do you think we're better?
The Who, but that may be an age thing. I'm 58 so the Beatles were passe by the time I was a teenager.
I've always preferred Pink Floyd- it's probably the most subjective question you could ask
Hey now, they might have been the biggest and the most popular but there were farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr from being the best act during that time. That they were all white boys from across the pond that were reasonably attractive helped, but they weren't the best act out there. Check these guys out - they used to be Metal Skool (LA glam rock cover band) but started writing their own tunes with my good buddy Dean Cameron:
I think that assrock is the logical descendent of glam metal, so look no further than TurbonegroAnd they're Norwegian
In terms of output it's really hard to beat what the Beatles did during their time together, but, if you look only at what they did during a certain time period, the Who and Rolling Stones are certainly on the level of the Beatles if not above. The only band close to the output by them (in terms of quality and not going straight to shiite at some point) is Husker Du and they had the decency to let heroin and bad intraband relationships break them up. I would have put the Beach Boys in there but they never did anything as perfect as "Live at Leeds", "The Who Sell Out", "Exile on Main Street", or "Some Girls", though "Pet Sounds" and "Today" come really close.
The Stones did like, what, 3 or 4 albums before they even wrote songs.

Figures that the Yinzers would do Mahler justice. Mach schnell!
Not quite but pretty damn close.
I just checked. It was 3! And on the 4th they wrote only 2!
I have the single "Tell Me" off the 1st album.
A 50 year old single...
It's in pretty good shape too. It's certainly playable.
Oh please, I have an old Technics. I had a Sansui at one time. Anybody remember the place on Wisconsin AVE (near R Street) that sold electronics (McIntosh, Sansui, etc.)?
