Infuriating presser from Matt.

He repeatedly said that he put Storen in to face Cespedes because he wanted the righty matchup.

Cespedes' slash line versus righties this year:   .319   .345   .582   .927
                                        and versus lefties:   .220   .287   .431   .718

Not to mention that Cespedes hit a ball off him last night about as hard as one can hit a ball.

1 year fluke sample size. But it was still the wrong move because Storen has proven he cannot pitch under pressure.

For Matt Williams's sake, he needs to be fired. Put him out of his misery.

MASN cuts away.   We'll have to wait on a CSN post.

556 plate appearances before tonight.  Fine, how about career then?

RHP - 279   .319   .493   .812
LHP - 252   .321   .465   .786

Still better against RHP.

.805 OPS vs LHP, .770 OPS vs RHP prior to this season. It will normalize next year.

The main point though is Cespedes has an OPS 150 points over his career average in his time with the Mets. ridiculous :bang:

Apparently Nats had security guards stationed outside windows so even if fans wanted to boo, they had no access.

Remember... Matt doesn't look at the opponent... only focuses on the stats of his guys.

I wish I was kidding.

That will probably equalize just in time for the playoffs.

I mean the Mets basically traded for a Harper-like talent at the deadline and gave up peanuts.

@keithlaw 40 day stretch cespedes is having is one of the greatest of all time, the clutch play is unbelievable .

Rob Carlin on CSN just absolutely destroyed Williams.  He called him terrible about 10 times.  He said there is no way he can return.  Wow.

I'll be curious if it happens right at the end of the season and if it does happen if Rizzo goes down with him. It really seems like the Lerners want him gone and if that's true, he will be.

He should be gone tonight. Give Knorr a shot for the last few weeks.

He should have been gone weeks ago. He'll be here through the end of the regular season, that much is clear.

I think Matt's mistake was pushing Strasburg out for the 8th.  That was the time to go to Storen and see if he could throw strikes.  Strasburg had a great game, but he is still not 100% and hasn't pitched deep into a game in a while.  Of course had he gone this route, and Storen got rocked, then he'd be attacked for not sticking with Strasburg.

Unfortunately, Storen was arguably the best of the bad options for the 8th.  Nobody in this bullpen is showing any ability to get people out (other than Papelbon and he's now allowed runs in his last two appearances).
