We had just seen Scooter Gennett and Hector Gomez almost hit back to back HRs in the 6th. If I had been at home, I would've bet easy money that Roark was going to give up at least a game-tying HR in the 7th to the heart of the Brewers' order.  Roark was done and had nothing left. It was as clear as a child could have seen it. Sadly, that child would make a better manager than Matt "F&*#ing" Williams.

Exactly, it was an absolute miracle we escaped that 6th inning, I turned back to the game after commercials and saw Roark delivering a pitch in the 7th, and I thought to myself, "Are you insane? The guy has been up all night, serving up home run balls over and over in any other ballpark." As I was thinking this, Parra hammered it out. Roark was not only out of gas but he had been scuffling all night anyway. What the hell did anybody expect? :smh:

Apparently Barrett, Rivero, Janssen and Storen were all available. Thornton was probably available too. I guess Carpenter missed his flight. You telling me we couldn't matchup, maybe push Storen to four or five outs, and finish off three measley innings? Unbelievable. Almost as bad as when he left Roark in against the Orioles last year, like Buck Showalter himself says, better to take a guy out too early than too late. When do you shake off the "rookie manager" crap, sit down, watch a few of Bruce Bochy's (or Showalter's) game and learn how to manage a pen. Boch took out Hudson in the 2nd inning in Game 7 last year. You can just tell when a guy isn't going to make it. Guess who won Game 7?

Where is Manny Acta? How might Manny have managed if he had had Scherzer instead of...who?? Tim Redding? Matt Chico? (I'm beginning / trying to forget everything before 2011)

Typically, you could find Manny in the dugout with a fake 'eyes open' mask plastered over his face while he napped.  I'm pretty sure the guy took an Ambien about an hour before every game started.

Davey napped - Manny was just being an Easter Island stone head

Frank wore sunglasses - even for night games - so you couldn't see his eyes while he slept.

Time to fire Williams  - he just doesn't have any clue

I don't think I have ever been so disappointed the the regular season play of a team as I have this year on this team - in ANY SPORT I have followed.

No leadership
No clue on how to use the arms on this team
No idea how to get players to perform that are not super stars
No plan of how to use what he has
No knowledge of how to change a plan that is not working

I am sick of seeing this team flounder with no rudder

You weren't here in 2013?

Honestly if they slip under .500 I say it's possible.

Bud Black is a pretty damn good manager.  What's going on in San Diego right now is not his fault at all.  He'd be my top pick.

That's funny--I was going to say that.  Expectations were too high out there.

:lmao: Bud Black the day he gets fired? Nats fans consistently would trade any manager for any other manager. Wow.

Black is great. The Padres are stupid. They spent a bunch of money and prospects to compete and want instant results. I say scoop him up.

I thought for some reason he was great too but isn't he under .500 after managing the same team for 8 years? What does he do that is great?

Consider what he has had to work with in San Diego.  Outside of Adrian Gonzalez and one year of Chase Headley, it's been rough for him for quite some time.

Fangraphs has a post up today saying that the Padres are largely playing to their projections.  Management seems to think they built a World Series contender, but what they really did was trade their farm system for a .500 team that is awful on defense.

His teams consistently overachieved, year after year. Then they decide to completely blow up the chemistry, and the result is predictable.  Reminds me of what the Dodgers did.  Signed alot of talent, then floundered for awhile, then eventually figured it out.  Note that they didn't fire the manager.   The Padres would have eventually been fine, with Black, better than with whoever becomes their manager.

There's a first time for everything, so eventually the Lerners will hire an experienced manager from outside of the organization.

He's acknowledged as a good manager and will have his choice of teams after the year.

Or outside the contention window.

Started posting in spring 2013 - don't post a lot just when I have a question or get so upset with what they have done.

That's pretty much the truth of it.  They have either a good offensive or good defensive outfield depending on who plays, a good offensive catcher, a couple starters who should be good, Kimbrel, and an absolute pile of crap for an infield.

They spent money wanting instant results, but it's really really hard to go out and buy a team.

And Williams' inability to manage his team, pitchers, and know when you need to take out a pitcher may have blown out Harper's knee.
