Werth's uncle was Dick Schofield, Ducky's son.

I'm only a generation off.    :)

And to suggest he's not going to win the MVP is comical.

I tell you what, I don't think I've ever seen a crowd get as excited when a player comes to the plate as they have been when Harper has been hitting this year.

for about three years now, he's been "must see."  You don't turn away when he's batting.

Crazy Haper stat of the day:  The last time Bryce Harper went three or more consecutive games without a hit:

August 25-27 2014

Werth's uncle was Dick Schofield, Ducky's son.

Dick Schofield Sr ("Ducky") was father of Dick Schodield and of Jayson Werth's mother. She was an NCAA and probably Olymbic swimmer.

welch, Nats haven't won since the shutdown. How does that equate to doing the right thing? It was always to build a dynasty that never came.

Well Strasburg isn't going in for a second TJS so there's that ...

Gonna watch Sports Center before going golfing.    Want to see if they're still grovelling over Cespedes for MVP after the week Harper had.

Only a quick comment by Saunders after the panel talked the baseball races  ...  "Cespedes playing like an MVP" and they went to commercial.    That wasn't too bad after last weeks Cespedes' love in.    They didn't mention the Nats or Harper this week.

Why bother? He's basically the Texas version of A-Rod at this point. Great play on a meaningless team.

Joe Medwick, 1937.

There have been quite a few AL players to have done it, most recently was Miggy in 2012.  The others are folks like Yaz, Williams, Frank Robinson, Mantle, and other HOFers.

It will be pretty tough for Harper to make up 17 RBIs to catch Arenado.

Don't forget Yaz, back when pitchers threw from a higher mound and only Yaz hit above .300. And nobody has come close to Mantle in '56, though Sievers should have been MVP in '57:

Wait, Schofield Sr. fathered Jr and JW's mom? I think we got a syntax issue happening here...

Nope. Dick Schofield, Jr, played well for the Pirates. Dick Schofield ("Ducky") Sr was a Pirates infielder who got bumped by Groat and Mazeroski. "Too good to trade, but can't beat out Groat and Maz". Jason Werth's mother was a fine athlete, a world-class swimmer. Her second husband was named Werth. Second husband (have to look up his name...might have played baseball) was Werth's father.

Thus, our Jason is a grandson of the original Dick Schofield, pennant winner with the 1960 Pirates.

Quote
Werth was born in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Jeff Gowan, a collegiate baseball and football player who broke all the receiving records and led all Division I wide receivers in receptions while at Illinois State University, and played outfield in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system in 1978 and Kim Schofield Werth, who competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials in the long jump and 100 meters. He is the grandson of Ducky Schofield and nephew of Dick Schofield, both Major League Baseball infielders, and stepson of Dennis Werth, who played in parts of four seasons with the Kansas City Royals and New York Yankees from 1979 through 1982. Werth is married with two children.

Yaz's triple crown 1967 was a lot better than his '68 when he hit .301 when he won the batting title. .326, 44 HR, 121 RBI.  1.040 OPS.

Highest OBP in a season, 2005-2015
1. TIE - Bryce Harper, .470
1. TIE - Chipper Jones, .470 (2008)
3. TIE - Joey Votto, .462 (2015)
3. TIE - Albert Pujols, .462 (2008)
5. Miguel Cabrera, .448 (2011)

Highest SLG in a season, 2005-2015
1. Bryce Harper, .674
2. Albert Pujols, .671 (2006)
3. Derrek Lee, .662 (2005)
4. Ryan Howard, .659 (2006)

wOBA, same deal
1. Bryce Harper, .474
2. Albert Pujols, .459 (2008)

Other Bryce Harper 2015 rankings, among all hitter seasons 2005-2015
wRC+ : #1
BB%: #7 (and #1 in the past 4 seasons)
BABIP: T-16th
WAR: #3 (and on pace to possibly finish the year at #2)

This is the best season any hitter has had since Barry Bonds. Period. To compare, Bryce Harper is hitting about 10% better (wRC+), in general, than Albert Pujols hit in Pujols' best season.

... and he's not finished yet. I bet he still hits 5-6 more HRs. Maybe even bump that OBP up. GOAT
