If Ryan Zimmerman breaks out the kazoo in the middle of a pitching change, then we know we are in trouble.

Why shouldn't the fans check out in the 7th?    The team did.    In addition, we're not sure Williams ever checked in.

Personally, when I go, I stay 'til the end.   Regardless.    Even when the lights go out three times.    :)

don't make like this was an 11-4 game.  3 runs.  I suppose the weather was summer hot, which stinks in the day time, and they played like zombies, but a walk, a dribbler, a bloop and a blast (a/k/a, the CarGo Rox formula v. Storen), and we are talking about the momentum again.  Hey, easy for me 450 miles away to say this, but even in the GDT, folks were talking about the Mets fans being the only ones heard late.  Bryce picked a bad game to call people out due to his non-performance, but let's not say it was a will the team home atmosphere either.

Where were the 3 runs going to come from?

From the bottom of the 5th when Scherzer hit for himself.

The top of the sixth, Scherzer gave up the tying run with a balk mixed in for good measure.

The bottom of the sixth, they were sat down 1-2-3.

The top of the 7th..we all remember the parade of terrible relievers.  I do hate a parade.

The bottom of the 7th...they were sat down 1-2-3.

The bottom of the 8th...they were sat down 1-2-3

The bottom of the 9th...Werth got a single and that was it.  That was all the offense after Scherzer hit for himself in the 5th.  Harper did strike out one more time, though, as a big middle finger for the fans who stuck around.

Where were the 3 runs going to come from???

In Australian sports, leaving early is an absolute no-no, but then I'll always excuse people with kids or the elderly. That said the team quits so the fans have that right as well.

Most of them probably don't last for 3+ hours.

In DC, the "fans" arrive late and leave early for every thing   ....   plays, games, concerts, parades, etc.

Some fans will leave early no matter the score. People need to get over it. Just be grateful they come out and support the game.

And complete BS on the Mets fans being the only ones there late. The Nats fans were completely drowning them out. In fact, they were cheering "Let's Go Harper" (when he whiffed for third time) so as to drown out the "Let's Go Mets" cheers.

If someone who was there today in a different section of the park (I was in 135) has a different opinion, I'd like to hear it because you really can't tell on TV or radio. Nothing infuriates me more than people judging the home fans from what they see on TV or hear on  the radio.

I've seen 'em walk at the Kennedy Center and the National.

The team didn't "quit" and neither did the fans. They just lost. It happens.

How would the description I laid out look different if they'd actually quit?  You can't be sat down 1-2 and end the inning.

Really? The dumb ass couple who got lost on the way out of a thousand who were there on time. I wouldn't say that's is exactly meaningful. But no matter. Be grateful they come out at all.

Professional athletes don't quit. That's just stupid fan talk.

Desperation? The roll of the dice?

You realize that you don't always get the outcome you want because you really really try and want it so so much, right?

Untrue.  Why would professional athletes not quit?  Professionals of all kinds are known to quit.  Quitting is part of being human.

Crowd sucked today. It was so bad if I turned away from the TV and heard a roar I couldn't be sure which team made a play.

You can't judge a crowd from your couch. You have to be there.

It might not have been great, but I've heard it way, way worse.

Untrue.  Why would professional athletes not quit?  Professionals of all kinds are known to quit.  Quitting is part of being human.

Professional athletes are not middle managers. They are highly motivated individuals who get paid a lot of money and play in front of huge crowds. If they quit, the whole world would know and skewer them.
