Wearing a Blackhawks jersey and serving Cubs fans. Bryce Harper to the Cubs confirmed.

Did he maybe lose a bet?

Leads all N.L. in voting.

No other Nat is on the list, even as a fifth runner up. Shameful.

He's a known Blackhawks fan. Looks like it was a Gatorade appearance he had to do.

Why of course, the 'hawks won a Stanley Cup.    It fits his m.o.

The two first played together on the same Las Vegas youth baseball team. Harper was 7 and Bryant was 9.

This is astonishing, given that Bryce has evidently aged at a fast rate such that he's only 9.5 months younger than Bryant already.  By age 32 or so, they'll be the same age.

Wacha at 7-0 has the inside track.

After last night's performance against a great lineup?

Boy does that jump out. How do you only have 35 Ks in 57 innings but post such a good ERA? Defense. This is the lowest strikeout rate Wacha's ever had, and his FIP is 3.64.

If you sort NL pitchers by WAR, Scherzer is 1st and Wacha is 24th (behind Lynn and Lackey off his own team).
If you sort NL pitchers by FIP, Scherzer is 1st and Wacha is 25th (the 2nd and 3rd guys are Arrieta and Gerrit Cole).
If you sort NL pitchers by ERA, Scherzer is 4th (!) and Wacha is 5th.
If you sort NL pitchers by Ks, Scherzer is 1st.
Fewest walks, Scherzer is 4th.
Innings, Scherzer is 1st.

Right now there's no other serious candidate to start the ASG.

Not sure how much I buy this arguement. Remember last year when Doug Fister had an absurdly low ERA, despite a 5.38 k/9 rate? Wacha is currently at 5.46 k/9. I don't buy that Fister was amazing last year simply because of defense. He makes quality pitches. Greg Maddux had a career K/9 rate of 6.1. Did he win multiple Cy Youngs and get to the HoF because of defense?

Wacha is a great pitcher. His strikeouts will increase over the course of the season.

So is Wacha a great pitcher without the strikeouts, or will his strikeout total increase?

Or are you just being, as usual, a contrarian for the sake of it?

Aaron Harang is probably having a more amazing season.

I think he's a great pitcher but his strikeout totals should increase. He was at ~7 K/9 last year. Time will tell if he's a great pitcher without the strikeouts. I'm just saying that it may be sustainable as there are pitchers who have done it in the past consistently.

While Wacha has the inside track Bumgarner holds the trump card.  ;)

Which shows how much faster Harper is than Bryant. He's going to lap him.  :hysterical:

Bryce Harper, last 19 starts:

.460/.570/1.175
13 HR, 4 2B, 1 3B
16 BB, 10 K
.400 BABIP

He is averaging almost a walk and an extra-base hit per game in his last 19 games.

Except it's not based on merit. 4 Cardinals lead voting for their position. Those people vote "the right way."

See, that BABIP shows he's just being lucky.  If the outfielders would be properly positioned, like say 6-10 rows back of the field, lots of those shots would be caught.
