(From one who was there for the Sievers season).

I remember Sievers in 1957 like yesterday or last season. Mickey Vernon was my first baseball hero, but Roy was next. Sievers set the team record for home runs, then broke his record. Then Calvin G. moved the LF fence in. Sievers and Killebrew both hit 42 home runs when Griffith Stadium had the short porch...only 350 feet down the LF line with about a ten-foot wall in front of the bleachers.

Let's see how he bounces back after a tough game last night. Struck out twice against his favorite team.

It wasn't bad that he struck out with  2 on both times and the Nats trailing but his reaction afterwards. During his hot streak he calmly took whatever the results were from his AB. Lets see if he can get back on track tonight and regain the calm composure that he has recently displayed. He is the offenses answer to Gonzalez in displays of emotion.

He damn near broke his helmet when he had that GIDP.

one of the more impressive helmet discards I've seen.  His helmet rolled all the way down to the ballgirl who sits in front of the RF corner grandstand.  I think one difference this year is that no ump talked to him after that.  Used to be, he'd get jawed at and told act like a major leaguer or asked are you trying to show me up?  No more gratuitous teaching.

That's what I'm interested in seeing. We know the talent is there. It's his head that is the problem. He does not handle failure well at all. Last time he struggled against the Yankees, it started a horrid tailspin.

He took a missed strike call fairly well in his last at bat of the night.  He's running high octane on intensity but still seems to be keeping it mostly in check.  The helmet was pretty impressive, but I'd still rather see a bit of emotion vs. a shrug on the way to collect a paycheck.

I was at that 0-7 performance in that awful 14 inning loss against the NYY that made me a believer in needing instant replay. Had been hot for a few days, had his average above .300 entering the game, and then after that he just cooled off and really didn't get going again until the season was almost over.

Unlike that game though, let's remember he also hit a home run last night.

And walked ... but what have you done for me lately?!  A GIDP and two Ks, in three big spots.  The guy's a bum.

I hope and expect to see Marvin Hudson reprimanded by the league for his actions tonight.

Yeah completely agree with this.  I think he was way out of line.  Lots of people are paying to watch Bryce Harper on the historic pace he has been on for the last two weeks.  No one is paying to watch an umpire throw a world-class hissy fit.

Basically. Bryce stepped out of the box because he wanted to yell at Matt. Then yells at Harper to get back in like he was the one holding up the game. That's why Bryce did the show him up thing of slowly putting one foot in. Like stop being a baby I'm not holding up the game you are.

Bryce Harper and Matt Williams are paid to be in the game.

How often has Ryan Zimmerman been tossed? I remember once he and Riggs were tossed but otherwise I can't remember once.

It is happening way too much with Harper.

The ump needs to stop having a rabbit ears. I was watching the Yankee broadcast and they thought the ump acted like an idiot. The did say that Bryce went too far with the one toe in the box to show him up but also stipulated that it would have never got to that point if he isn't barking at the dugout.

Ryan Zimmarman is paid to hit .300 and not GIDP every other AB also.

He has hit in the heart of the order for a multiple NL East champions and for a long time was the only player on this club worth watching. Also has a few big hits.

Somehow Harper has more bad umpires than Zimmerman.

Harper is a stud. I don't care about the hair, eye black, blowing kisses at the pitcher, any of it. As long as he in the game. When he puts himself in situations that result in an ejection he hurts the team and puts the manager in a spot that he has to intervene.

I jest, relax.. but seriously Harper's passion and edginess is his greatest trait, I'll take the odd ejection if he produces like he currently is.

No, Bryce needs to keep his freaking mouth shut.

There are three reasons to talk to the home plate umpire:
1. To request a pause in play.
2. To inform the home plate umpire that you are ready to continue play.
3. To request an appeal on a check swing.

k, but that doesn't mean Marvin Hudson didn't get caught in the moment.
