One reason for the great D tonight - I don't recollect one ball hit to short by the Mets.

Well, there were some hit just a little too far to the left, or too far to the right.

Remember John Olerud?

I thought there was an Os position player that played with a helmet too, years back.

Gary Roenicke?

Gary Roenicke?
I remember that Olerud had a plate in his head so that's why he wore the helmet.

I vaguely remember Roenicke in one but not why.

Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 50th win, each season:

2005 - 3rd July (81st match of season)*
2014 - 12th July (92nd match)
2012 - 13th July (84th match)
2015 - 20th July (91st match)
2013 - 26th July (104th match)
2011 - 30th July (106th match)
2007 - 4th August (110th match)
2006 - 9th August (113th match)
2010 - 13th August (116th match)
2008 - 29th August (135th match)
2009 - 13th September (143rd match)

*Win #50 brings the '05 Overachievers to the finale of their big June-centred run (the end of a series sweep over the Cubs at Wrigley)...the following day (4th July) would bring a disastrous match against the Mets and the beginning of the end as far as contention was concerned.

Maple Leafs actually was the name of a minor-league baseball team that played in Toronto (the AAA affiliate of the Red Sox back in the 1960's, I think).

The Leafs were due for a win.

The plural of "Leaf" is "Leaves."

Therefore, once again, screw Toronto.
