July 2 & international signings
« Topic Start: July 02, 2015, 10:36:37 AM »
Kiley McDaniel projects us to get Juan Soto, RF from the DR. His report: "Soto is a protoypical projection right fielder, with some muscle to add, projectable above average power, enough arm for right field, below average speed and enough feel to hit to tap into his power at times already." Age 16, lefty, 6'1" 175, he's guessing $1.5M.

He's also projecting the Dodgers will drop $32M on different players.

Soto is an ideal candidate for LF on the Nationals in about 5-8 years.

The fact that we chose this guy to be the first very large bonus we've given in a while must say something about how our scouts feel about him.

The GOAT! Seriously, sweetest swing out there. All the tools. Miss him

Jr. seems to only have the power tool, so we'll see. Wish him the best!

yeah, at least so far, and at this very young age, the skills that really show are the bat, with the power, obviously, and the contact rate and ability, and the ability, so I've heard, to hit bad balls (though no one will be as good as his dad).  he's much more stout than his dad was at this age, and though the running ability will most likely never match, hopefully his arm will develop better (though again, no one will be as good as his dad)...

Nothing against either Guerrero, but I'm surprised someone paid that much for the 16year old Venezuelan version of Dan Vogelbach. This is at 15 or 16. Luckily the Blue Jays signed him so he can DH.

Looks like we also signed SS Luis Aquino for 200k. He's Cristian Guzmans nephew.

That's $1.7 of our $1.985 pool. Probably it for the bigger bonuses.

@nationals The #Nats have agreed to terms with 16-year-old OF Elvis Alvarado, a native of Sabaneta, DR, who is 6-4, 175-lbs & profiles as a corner OF.

Havent found much on Alvarado but he got a $700k bonus. Apparently we trade a minor leaguer to the Red Sox for an international bonus slot, giving us extra cash. So Elvis is pretty highly regarded. Saw that he was listed at 6'6 175 at a perfect game event a year ago. While probably not an official measurement, it probably means the 6'4 is a legit measurement. Gives him a lot of projection in his frame.

Ramses Rosario was the prospect traded. He's in his 4th season in the Dominican Summer League, with continued control problems. Turns 20 in October. Seems we got the pick for basically nothing.

We're basically at our limit without incurring penalties. Doubt we go over since the worthwhile guys appear to have been taken. Just $10k guys most likely from here on out. The signing of RHP Francisco Costanzo for $10k has also been announced.

A Paul O'Neil type player someday?  I'd take that...
