You are just going by money.  I am going by the scouting reports.  Pena was nowhere near as hyped as Cabrera.  The Mets or whomever it was went nuts because he could hit a ball farther than every other kid by a lot.

Hahahaha. Yes, don't pay attention to facts like money or draft position. The best way to tell who was the best prospect 10 years ago is who's the best now.

Wily Mo Pena was given that money by the YANKEES in the middle of an epic dynasty, by Brian Cashman, one of the best GMs in the game.

Don't pay attention to biased organizations like BASEBALL AMERICA who had Wily Mo Pena ranked 88th on their 100 top prospects in 2000 the year after both signed, while Cabrera was not listed.

Clearly, at the time both signed Cabrera was the more hyped prospect. That's why he was paid significantly less and not listed on top prospect lists.

Of course, by the time Cabrera's rookie year rolled around after being in the minors for 4 years, everyone KNEW he was a once in a lifetime talent. That's why BASEBALL AMERICA took the unprecedented step of listing him 13th on their prospect list, right behind future HOFer Scott Kazmir.
