Ross to the DL. Right shoulder inflammation.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/nationals-journal/wp/2016/07/03/nationals-place-joe-ross-on-disabled-list-as-stephen-strasburg-returns-to-start-vs-reds/

even if this is just to keep innings down and an extended rest, it's a great idea. boy is sore. smart

Same people who always called Strasburg a puss and wanted him traded.

Joe "Taylor" Ross might be done as a starting pitcher for us. I have never seen such a quick hook demotion except for Guthrie.

If he's never good again, what a shame. Seems like he's not yet really recovered from last year's arm problems. He was definitely more effective when he first came up. Seemed like a solid mid-rotation guy.

Box score meaningless IMO.  I assume he was working on change up and mechanics

I don't think he will be able to survive if his fastball continues to dip into the high 80s after a few innings.

Joe Ross   8.0   5   1      1      0       6      0        101-68 & Done

When this game started, Seattle's first 4 batters were all batting over .300.  When Joe Ross left, #2, #3, and #4 had all dropped below .300. His fastball was 92-94 mph part of the game.

As a starter, no. But as a reliever...

I would love to hear some thoughts on why he loses velocity after a few innings.

He has poor endurance. This is fine. Not everyone has every gift. He's gonna be a good reliever.

He struck out the side in the *8th* inning.

I don't think Rusty and Rizzo care too much about fatiguing Ross to save a Bullpen meltdown.

Well, one of the things he was supposed to work on in Syracuse was not running out of gas after 75 pitches. No way to tell if that problem is fixed without pushing him past the point where he usually runs out of gas. You'll never have a better chance to try that out than when you have a 9-run cushion.

That's the least run support he's gotten all year!
