surprised this hasn't been bumped.  Among pitchers with 20 IP, Ross has the lowest ERA (0.79) and is 8th in WHIP.   Somehow he only has 14 Ks.

Can we please trade with San Diego again?

I was worried about the league solving him but his changeup seems to be just enough. I'm cautiously optimistic/thrilled.

low BABIP (.231), high strand rate (91%), and he has not been homered on.  He has been quite lucky on line drives (25%!).  Maybe he is being helped by lefties not pulling him (20%) and righties hitting a lot of GBs (53%).  I'm going to guess that, if any pitcher has been helped by having Espinosa and Taylor at SS and CF, it is him.

Having the change this year has done wonders for Boss Joe Ross. This game will be a big one for him. Tough lineup, 1-8.

Feel bad for him.  2 runs in 6.2 against a very deep lineup was damn impressive.  Kid deserved better.

His fastball has more cu too. He's doing well enough that teams can't load up with lefties and over power him

He pitched a great game last night. Pity we couldn't give him any runs

ERA of over 5 in the month of June. Already given up four runs in July.

Needs to be sent down or converted to a reliever.

I think in the long run he'll be fine but is going through a funk.  Keep in mind he's only 23.   I hear what Slate's saying but I wouldn't send him down quite yet.  2 more starts like this, I would be more amenable to a change.

Who was? He was never considered anything more than a 4/5 starter at best

A lot of people here were. But that doesn't mean a whole lot. People here fall in love with players after seeing very little from them.

I still think he has solid mid-rotation potential. I don't think anyone ever called him an ace, but I do think he can be a solid arm. He has a nice slider and can command (usually). I didn't catch today's game, so I have nothing to add.

Smithian could have an entire building collapse on him and he will insist that it's confetti for some obscure celebration.

Embracing them after they are already established stars is like doing nothing at all.  It's easy to be risk averse, no downside risk.  Not what I would call a courageous stance, though.

Appreciating the potential of a young and unproven player isn't deserving of scorn, is it?

who said anything about scorn? Also, who gives a freak about making a "courageous stance"? A player will either make it happen or he won't, freak your courageous stance.

He'll be fine. He's our #5 SP. Just about every other team in the league would kill for a talented young 23 year old with a ~3.5 ERA as their #5 P.
