. It's not that Desmond isn't playing like his old self, or that he's not playing like a starting-caliber shortstop. It's that he's playing like a starting-caliber player. In AA. Right now, Espinosa is the best SS on the team (!) and it's not even close. He should be playing shortstop. Whichever 1B candidate is most likely to hit on a given night should play 1B. Desmond should be on the bench. Last time he sat, he got a pinch hit. That was an actual positive contribution, which is quite the rarity from him these days.

Whatever "issues" Desmond is having, he needs to be sent to Syracuse and they can't even do that because he has 5+ years service time.
