We somehow might have the chance to draft Matuella, if we want him.

Rizzo loves TJ survivors, wouldn't be surprised.

Andrew Stevenson, OF, LSU, left/left

MLB.com:
Stevenson struggled as a freshman at Louisiana State before breaking out as sophomore. He built on that progress with a strong summer in the Cape Cod League, which he led with 21 stolen bases, and has solidified his status as a top-three-rounds pick with a fine junior year with the Tigers. Stevenson is the best defensive center fielder in college baseball, and some scouts rate his fly-catching ability as a 70 on the 20-80 scale. His terrific reads and jumps and his well above-average speed give him tremendous range. His arm lacks strength but doesn't detract from his overall brilliance in center. While his approach at the plate is too busy, Stevenson does a good job of making contact and using his speed to get on base. He has the quickness and savvy to steal bases. He doesn't have much power, though he can turn on balls and drive them into the gaps on occasion.

Jesse Burkhart, FanGraphs:

"– At the plate, in the field and on the base paths, LSU center fielder Andrew Stevenson stood out in every phase of the game. His whippy swing is unorthodox and he has below-average power, but he has a knack for barreling up pitches with good bat speed and an ability to go the other way. He’s also a 60 runner (4.03 from home to first) with fast-twitch athleticism and savvy instincts, giving him a chance to be a plus defender in center field, even if his arm strength is below-average. A spark-plug type player who profiles at a premium defensive position, he should land somewhere in the third or fourth rounds. Among players not expected to be among the top 50 picks, Stevenson is the college position player I’m highest on relative to the industry."

Kiley McDaniel also had Stevenson in the 3rd or 4th round.

Contact hitter, we need more of those. And a plus defender? I like it.

I would've gambled on Matuella but it's pretty obvious there's a lot more concern with his injury background than the typical TJ guy.

We needed bats, so Stevenson makes some sense. Pretty safe pick, because being a lefty, with speed and ability to play D, he should at least be a backup at the big league level. Could be a lead off CF if all falls right.

Coming up again soon. Wouldn't mind another bat. Would've liked Hansen, who just went to the Dodgers.

Matuella might make more sense with 69. It is protected if there is a chance he doesn't sign. Skye Bolt was a Nat pick out of high school and projected in the range.

Blake Perkins great pick. Better sign him and then be patient and see where he is in 4-5 years.

Blake Perkins, OF, high school (AZ), right/right

from MLB.com:
"Thought to be the best high school player in the state of Arizona heading into the 2015 season, the toolsy Perkins hasn't disappointed, with the outfielder having a solid senior campaign to put him in top five round consideration. A right-handed hitting center fielder, Perkins is a lean, wiry and athletic athlete with raw tools and room to add strength. He has some bat speed and strike zone knowledge, with that added strength, along with better positioning of his hands, allowing him to be a more dangerous hitter in the future. There could be some power there to come as well. Perkins is a plus runner who likes to runs the bases well and covers a lot of ground in the outfield, one who can stick in center field with an average arm. There is some upside with Perkins and the team that believes in that ceiling will take him and try to sign him away from his Arizona State commitment."

Kiley McDaniel at FanGraphs ranked him in the 170s with "offensive questions."

I'd love Skye Bolt, if only because of his 80-grade name, but his performance hasn't measured up to his skills. Kiley at FanGraphs thinks Bolt has a hard time recognizing breaking pitches, doesn't rank him in the top 200.

Definitely has some holes. I just remembered his name while reading the mlb.com rankings a few days ago, and it was in the range of our picks. I think he's the the 60's on their board.

Like what I've read on Perkins. Projectable kid but isn't a raw, athlete. He's a real baseball player. Long term kid but real upside.

From Baseball America:

Perkins:

Perkins, an Arizona State commit, brings a certain grace and smoothness to the field. The best athlete among all Arizona high school position players, he's got five tools with average-or-better potential. Perkins is a natural center fielder and seemingly glides to balls in the outfield. He sees the ball off the bat well, takes good routes and catches the ball easily. He's at least a plus runner with a smooth stride in motion and shows off a good arm in the outfield. At the plate, Perkins' hands work well and he's got good bat speed, with the ball jumping off his bat, but he needs to get stronger and tighten up the swing somewhat in order to become an impact hitter. He hits line drives to all fields and projects to have average power once he physically matures.

Stevenson:

At times this season, Louisiana State would field a trio of outfielders who could play center field in pro ball, but there was little question who would be standing in center field for the Tigers. Stevenson is one of the best center fielders in college baseball and projects as an above-average center fielder in pro ball thanks to 70 speed, excellent routes and a knack for making the diving catch. His below-average arm is his only weakness defensively. At the plate, Stevenson lacks the picture-perfect swing lefthanded hitters often possess. He’s cleaned it up and made it less mechanical in the past year, but it still is an arms and upper-body swing that looks to slap the ball up the middle or the other way, resulting in bottom-of-the-scale power. His speed makes that work, and he's ranked among SEC leaders in batting average each of the past two seasons. He profiles as a top-of-the-order center fielder whose defense may allow him to play even if his bat forces him to the bottom of the lineup.

Someone in the Nats' front office must follow Alex Bregman, #2 overall pick and Stevenson's LSU teammate.  :)

The Padres picked a kid, Jacob Nix. I'm convinced that's the most common sur name in baseball.

Rhett Wiseman, OF, Vanderbilt, left/right

MLB.com:
One of Vanderbilt's best performers in Omaha as it won the 2014 College World Series, Wiseman has had a solid junior season and should be the next Commodore picked after Dansby Swanson, Carson Fulmer and Walker Buehler go in the first round. He doesn't have a carrying tool but does a little bit of everything and plays with intensity. Wiseman's most useful tool is probably his average power. After going homerless as a sophomore, he led Vanderbilt with 12 homers during the 2015 regular season. He needs to guard against selling out for homers, because his swing gets long and he struggles to make contact when he does. An average runner with a fringy arm, Wiseman plays right field for the Commodores but fits better in left field as a pro. He doesn't always take direct routes on flyballs yet has a knack for making dramatic catches.

David Laurila, FanGraphs:
"his academic credentials are every bit as impressive as his tools"

"His athleticism is off the charts, but his game is less-than-polished."

Ranked #107 on Kiley McDaniel's board. Projected 50 scouting scores across the board (currently in the 20s for hitting categories).

Oregon commit and top bat Demi Orimoloye is still out there.
