but it is not nice to see the Nationals held to just two runs by a no-name pitcher.

Isn't it the pitcher's advantage when a team faces them for the first time?

I grew up in Chicago as a White Sox fan, and you'll never convince me that Wrigley Field is anything but a urine-soaked dump that needs to be imploded, filled with drunks who don't know what the score is :)

It is nice to see Drew Storen pitch effectively even in the face of what might be MLB official perfidy, and it is nice to see Span and Ramos hit home runs, and it is definitely nice to see 2014 Tanner Roark back...but it is not nice to see the Nationals held to just two runs by a no-name pitcher.
They squandered three other chances to score.

I am sure Cubs' fans might have more to say about "new" Comiskey

Drew's pitching light's out, let's hope he can keep it up. Perfidy, perhaps, but even that's not bothering us at this point (nice word choice, BTW!). Was nice to see Tanner start for sure, and I love 2-1 wins, no matter who's pitching!

If the 2015 Nats are ever going to catch the 2012 crew and pull ahead it will be over the next week or in mid-late June.

Come on, 2015 Nats. It's not like the 2012 group won 100 games. You can do better.

It would be an achievement if we could catch the 2005 Nats by midseason, who were in first at 50-31.     :old:

Get out of here old man! No one cares for your stories about something that happened over a decade ago! That is ancient history!

Nick Johnson's quadruple slash at June 8 -    .343   .457    .554   1.011.  Harperesque!

Keeping up with the '05 Overachievers is going to be a bit difficult in the coming days since we're about to pull up to the stretch (26th May - 3rd July) when they went 26-6. Better opportunities await with effect from 4th July, when the '05 edition lost to the Mets and went into a considerable tailspin after that.

Oh man, I was at that game...I think that was the last time Sun-woo Kim pitched as a Nat. There was a snooki-type girl in the row in front of me who had a Mets thong sticking out from her Mets sun dress, which somehow or another remains a much more vivid (as in nightmare vivid) memory than the game itself. Of course we had no way of knowing at the time that was the Nats' high water mark and that we would eventually crawl across the finish line in last place.

The July 3rd win in the 12th over the Cubs in Chicago was definitely the high water mark for 2005, in every sense.  They just seemed to get tired after that.

Of course, if you look at that lineup you might wonder how they ever got that far.

Brad Wilkerson
Junior Spivey 2B
Jose Guillen RF
Vinny Castilla 3B
Marlon Byrd LF
Carlos Baerga 1B
Brian Schneider C
Jamey Carroll SS
Ryan Drese P

Did have Rick Short coming off the bench, however.

Almost 20 MPH blowing out...all the runs might come by HRs again today.
