still should have kept clippard

I wasn't a supporter of the trade at the time (would have far preferred to re-sign Cabrera and keep Clippard), but Escobar is more than earning his keep.  I don't know how Clippard's arm hasn't fallen off with the abuse he's taken over the years, but I have to figure that was a major part of the calculation too.  Treinen isn't good, but if Roark is out there with Storen, Treinen shouldn't be pitching in the eighth, and he wouldn't be if Janssen wasn't on the DL.  Also, Grace sucks.  Tonight's implosion is on him almost as much as Treinen.  I thought we'd seen the end of Henry Rodriguez and Billy Traber, but it seems not.

I like Solis' stuff a lot more than Grace's. Surprised he didn't get the call tonight.

I turned this game off in disgust after the Marlins scored their 4th run. Boy, do I look stupid now.

I'm still not a supporter of the trade because there were far less valuable assets the A's would have accepted for a player who was a throw in with Ben Zobrist.  They neither wanted nor needed Escobar.

Grace in no way sucks yet. The jury is out. He let another guy's runners score. Barrett bailed Thornton out hard last game, but you can't always expect that. Treinen absolutely needs to own those two runs. Has he walked his first batter in every appearance, or does it just feel that way?

Grace doesn't have the stuff to get major league hitters out in the long term, and he didn't get them out tonight.  He may be useful as a LOOGY for a year or so until the division figures him out, but I just can't see him as much of a solution and I doubt the organization does either.  What is he, the fifth left-handed reliever who has been thrust into a bullpen role since the roster started coming together in ST - Blevins, Cedeno, Thornton, Solis, him?  Many LOOGYs are essentially AAAA pitchers, but being behind Cedeno in the pecking order says a bit.  At least Grace throws the ball over the plate and mostly keeps it on the ground, though.

He was never behind Cedeño other than for roster reasons. Cedeño got a flier because it would have meant a DFA otherwise. They were playing with house money.

I don't disagree with that, but I feel like the Nats could have given up something besides Clippard to get Escobar.

Good point, although I wouldn't call it "house money" when starts the season on the ML roster and blows 2 games in 5 appearances.

I think Rizzo was choking on his $9MM or whatever that he was earning this year...

That's the feeling I get as well.   Rizzo didn't wanna get off the dime.

My apologies for the lame GDT.  I actually had a proper starter page setup and thought I had submitted it but apparently did not.

ATTENDANCE at this match: 24,731 (59.8% full)

:uk:

This game is being repeated on MASN at 11:30 pm tonight
and 9:00 am tomorrow morning

"As the Nationals take on the Miami Marlins at 7:05 p.m., the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" trailer will play on the Nats HD Scoreboard, we will premiere a special Star Wars Day video (featuring some of your favorite Nationals players), and a special visitor from the Star Wars universe will join us before the game. "

Who was this "special visitor"?

One of these possibly:
Miss America (sang national anthem)
A guy in a beat-up stormtrooper costume that won fan of the game
Ian Desmond's bat
