Even the Disastros easily won their home opener today. Shame on the Nationals. :smh:

The Nats faced the worst starting pitcher out of anyone starting today (narrowly beating out Kendrick who shut out Milwaukee) and did nothing.

I didn't think of it that way....

BTW--can I change my name? I no longer live in Baltimore..

Dan Uggla should be benched for awhile - a LONG while ....

He wasn't any worse than anyone else today. Most people are blaming Desmond for that error (and rightly so), and Uggla was very classy in his postgame comments, saying he should have been louder when calling for it. It's only one game, but he has some pop in his bat and this offense needs all the help it can get. Nobody beyond the 3-spot in the lineup got a hit today so it's not like he single-handedly lost the game for us.

He trashed Detroit.  It's a sore subject.

Ah I hadn't caught that, ok perfectly understandable then. I'd feel the same if someone trashed my hometown, only I can do that :mg:

If someone trashes my hometown, I just get mad at them for stealing my material.

Just curious, do you still live there?  When I lived home I could totally handle people saying how bad it was, but man since I've moved away there's truly no place like home   Although I don't really like people just generally trashing the South for tired reasons either and I still live here so anyway maybe TF and I are just overly protective of our hometowns/adopted towns.

Hi all.... Long time baseball fan, and newbie here.... I have said this on many occasions - such is baseball - but nothing pisses me off more than wasted starts... A great start by Scherzer, and the offense doesn't show, and the defense SHOWS... Ugh, hated that loss. It was not a fun game to attend, well...

161 to go, but they did not look well at all today, and those injuries showed mightily.

So in all a big :wtf:

Welcome! I feel the same! I'll still never forget when Pedro threw a no no through 9 and LOST in 10 because nobody scored.

Did anyone else notice that Rendon was not in the player introductions or did I miss him?

he wasn't, he's still in Viera I believe.  They mentioned him as well during the silver slugger presentation when Rizzo accepted the award on his behalf.

...[haven't read the entire thread as yet but] I don't think we've gotten yet to the most essential question, the sine qua non of a Nats opening day: IN WHICH INNING DID THEY RUN OUT OF HOT DOG BUNS? Was the fourth-inning mark (of our first Opening Day in 2005) eclipsed?

Great day for a ball game   ....  the outcome, not so much.    Nice to see familiar (and new) faces at the Loft.    Not sure what the story is but I always seem to run into CAL before entering the game.    One year, it's Metro.    Yesterday, she's in the security line.     I'll be in the Loft for a longer period of time (forewarned  :) ) for my next start.       Still trying to figure out what the hell Desmond was doing.

It's deja vu all over again...Desmond wants to be in the spotlight on just about every play....instead of just playing SS or listening to teammates when they call him off (to which he tunes a deaf ear)...followed by his oh-so-stellar ABs....if Rizzo traded him today, he could get as much as $14 or $15, but each game that number will decline...until it's down to nothing...take the $15 today....please...
and Matt...try to encourage your boys to make contact instead of swinging for the moon....thanks..

Sadly, no. I haven't lived in Houston in 5 years but am stuck with the username. I think if we were allowed to change our names, the management fears that everyone would be changing names constantly.

Wasted starts. I thought those were so LAST Season not this season. **Sigh!** Not a good way to start the season. Well there is tomorrow and Thursday to mop up some NY Motts.

Missus bought an "Opening Day" red cap at the park.   Standard Opening Day Nationals Park fare with 2015 and all but on the side is embroidered " '47  ".    Any clues?

Edit:    Googled it.   It's the hat brand name.    I thought it referenced JR's career with the 'bums.
