Doh...that's like playing 1812 Overture at the Westminster
Last night was pups in the parks, with post-game fireworks. Not a good combination.

I'm glad to have seen a few games at Candlestick when I was a kid.

Chavez Ravine wasn't terrible but I think Wrigley and Fenway are definitely one and dones. It's like going to Mardi Gras, you are happy to say you went but you aren't begging to go back.

Camden Yards was not terrible because when I lived (and almost died) in the area, tickets were cheap.

Nats park will forever be my favorite park because that's where I first fell in love with baseball, that's where I met some of you all and that's where I got to go to my first World Series game. Nat's Park instilled a love for the Nats like when my Dad's grandpa used to take him to Cub's games because he worked nights and Wrigley didn't have lights.

There are intrinsic and nuanced things that people hold dear that drive them to a specific opinions. Whatever your favorite park is and whichever park makes you smile as soon as you queue up in line, that's the best ballpark in America. Everything else is a bunch of snooty ass blow hards trying to justify their existence as a "sports journalist".

For those of you heading to Saturday's game, here's the road closure map for the Army birthday parade in the evening.

Did the Nationals make the section behind home plate smaller at some point? I thought there were more rows when it opened in 2008.

It seemed like the net behind home plate to stop foul balls was thicker or more intrusive.

At the grand opening, I'm pretty sure that I was in row 7 and put on a gorilla suit in the 7th inning, when it got cold. They put me on the jumbo-tron. There are only 6 rows now, and there were definitely many rows behind me, and no back wall with a sign. The people sitting behind me, complete strangers, helped me pull up the one-piece gorilla suit, when they saw what I was doing.

The GEICO Caveman sat in my row at the beginning of the game. He had gone to the field for the mascot race, but returned a few innings later and sat at the other end of my row. He saw me and waved me over. We had our arms around each other, waving, as I whispered to him, "I've been a lifelong GEICO subscriber."

After the game, fans were posing for pictures with me, including a gorgeous woman, who stood really close to me. Someone bought me a bottle of beer at the President's Club after the game. I had a big enough mouth-hole to drink it through the  mask. Some guys, who slipped into that section and the clubhouse without tickets or badges, posted pictures on the Internet with me, which I posted on here in 2008.

The grand opening was on ESPN, so it has never been shown again on MASN, as far as I know. So I've never been able to see myself on the ESPN broadcast. I don't know if the broadcasters even mentioned seeing me. The GEICO Caveman walked down to the front of the section a few times to distract the opposing pitcher. He left early, before Ryan Zimmerman homered to win the game.
 :w:
I never sat in that section again. It cost around $300; the section was not sold out, so they kept dropping the price online. The Nationals should have given me a free ticket to appear there again in the gorilla suit.

I watched that game in a pub in Colorado and I remember* a gorilla so well played

*with the caveat that memories from a Colorado pub from March 2008 are by definition somewhat nonspecific

I looked back at some photos from when the early days of the ballpark and it looks like that middle section (Section C) has always had seven rows of seats. The sections to either side have 11 or 12 rows, though.

While we're on the subject of concessions, my go to lately has been the Italian hoagie from Capo Deli. Not cheap at around $15, but it's a very generous portion. Perfect ratio of ingredients in my opinion, and the roll is just right—not too tough as some tend to be.

Those Korean corn dogs are also really good, but I can't see myself getting those regularly. Reminds me of novelty state fair-type food.

I got the Italian sub from Capo Deli last night and it was fantastic. It was big enough for my wife and I to share it (we had packed some other snacks). Bread was as good as anything I've had. Thanks for the recommendation, it's my new favorite food stand at the park (and unlike the traditional ballpark options, there was a very short line).

At the risk of thread derailment - wife and I have been seeing the Smithereens whenever the they swing by NoVa - usually the State Theatre, sometimes the Birchmere.  Since their lead singer Pat DiNizio passed away in 2017 they have been using Robin Wilson (Gin Blossums) or Marshall Crenshaw as their lead singer.  Both are excellent.

Tech upgrade for #Nats fans attending games can sync up the MLB Ballpark App with their cell phone and a personal listening device (headphones/AirPods, etc.) to listen live to the radio broadcast without delay in English or Spanish on the Nationals Park WiFi.

I didn't even realize it was possible to stream audio without delay. It's nice to have this option now but hopefully this doesn't mean they're discontinuing the in-park FM radio broadcast.

it does. No more lanyard next year. I assume C&D will still be pumped into the restrooms

Judging from the large number of fans I see using those lanyards, many of whom are season plan holders, I think that move is going to make a lot of people very unhappy.

I tested it out last night and it worked surprisingly well. It was maybe a half second behind the 68.5 MHz broadcast that the radio lanyards use. It did burn through the battery on my late model iPhone pretty fast and it mad the phone pretty hot. I'm not sure my phone's battery would make it through nine innings.

look into a clutch charger. They also have chargers in the stadium that you can sign out.

Correct, for the reasons as stated, phones get too hot and lose battery power over three hours of usage. Plus it's pretty cool to use the lanyards and hear the sound of the bat hitting the ball in real time.

My thoughts:

1.  Howie's HR in game 7 of the WS
2.  Howie's Grand Slam in Game 5 of the DS
3.  Trent Richardson's Wild Card Game error in right field
4.  Werthquake
5.  The Souza / Zimmermann No-hitter

6.  Take your pick...doesn't really matter...maybe one of the concerts...

Dave Jageler said on the pregame 20 year retrospect that Howie is on the National's Mt. Rushmore.  I concur...

I hadn’t seen your list before. But man, you didn’t like Max Scherzer, huh?

I thought $30MM per was insane when they signed him...what do I know?

To be perfectly honest, I guess I really don't appreciate pitching like I do offense...and maybe thinking he was a huge overpay impacted my impression of him...aside from the fact that he's a bit of an oddball...

We were at the Zimmermann 2014 no-hitter and either one or both of Max's in 2015...I forget which...in addition to Max's 20 strikeout game in 2016...so go figure.

His postseason performances lead me to believe that Max was a bit of a big game choke artist.  Not being able to go in Game 5 of the WS is a big part of that...

That said, I expect my Mt. Rushmore would be St. Stephen, Mad Max, Employee #11, and Howie...

I thought Trent Grisham missed the ball in the wild card game? Trent Richardson sounds like a football dude.
