The Bear is worth a watch. (Hulu).

Welcome to Wrexham has been disappointing. Had high hopes.

I've liked Wrexam (I haven't seen the last couple of episodes, but what I've seen has been Sunderland, but less depressing)

I love Chapelle. I’ll have to make it a point to watch it.

I wish SNL would get James Acaster as a host.

The latest American Experience - 'Taken Hostage (Parts 1 & 2)'. Very informative (note - run-time of 226 minutes).

The split. into two parts, works well. Although the subject is the Iran embassy hostage crisis, the first part is much more of a 'how did we get here' examination of US  / Iranian relations, from the 1930's onward (if you can't face the whole 3.75 hours, then go with Part One). Part Two examines the hostage crisis itself, in detail - the role of President Carter comes in for some reappraisal. Part Two also works as a stand-alone program, but you'll get more out of it if you've watched Part One.

Assuming it'll be shown on PBS, Simon Schama's 'History Of Now' is well worth a watch. Schama's take on the relationship between culture, politics and society.

Netflix has a really good documentary now available called "Pepsi, Where's my jet?." It tells the story from the 1990s of a Pepsi point promotion that featured a TV commercial claiming that you could get a Harrier jet for 7,000,000 points. A guy figured out he could by the points for $700,000, got funding from a friend, and tried to claim the jet. When Pepsi blew him off, he sued.

PBS doesn’t get the good history stuff anymore. I remember reading landscape of memory in college; it’s a tough read, but I definitely recommend it

Unfortunately, you may well be right - I'd assumed it was a co-production, but there's no mention of PBS on the end credits... :(  I wonder if the plan is to show it on BritBox (pay channel) instead?...

Not sure about it's US broadcast status, but the Australian series 'Mystery Road - Origin' is currently being shown here. Sort of 'Scandi-Noir' with sun and sand, in a desolate part of Western Australia. It's actually a prequel to two previous series (so features a younger version of the main character), although, for the UK, it's actually the start as I don't think the originals have been broadcast here. It's the same idea as 'The Young Montalbano'...

The new night Court may be the worst thing I’ve seen on television. My family didn’t even make it past 5 minutes

It's 100% awful. Is that what we were used to watching in the 80s and we've just didn't know how much better TV could be?

The original show was kind of dumb. But Harry Anderson had a likable quality about him. And the old lady has some funny lines. Forget her name. It was not high brow stuff for sure.

I frequently wonder about just this myself. I almost never watch network TV shows anymore. I used to enjoy a lot of them when I was growing up and some through the '90s. If the current shows were on then, would I have enjoyed them just as much as I did with those actual older shows? I just don't know. Certainly part of it is the higher quality of some of the shows now, but I just don't know for sure.

It's impossible to replace Harry Anderson.

FiOS recently added MeTV to its HD lineup, so we now see its programming in our guide. We've been watching a lot of MASH as they air two episodes in the evenings. That show holds up very well.

My kids still like watching old reruns of Emergency as well.

Okay. So the Night Court reboot is just historically bad. Poorly acted, bad camera cuts, awful, stupid dialog, jokes that aren't at all funny.

That 90s show seems to be the better outcome of a nostalgia reboot. Not great, but at least watchable
