Jeopardy announces new guest hosts including Dr Oz, Anderson Cooper, Savanah Guthrie, and Sanjay Gupta. I think we’re entering the “new coke” phase of the program and there will be a big backlash. Hopefully it ends with Jennings as the permanent host.

Farid Zakaria or no one.

I don’t mind any of the non-Dr. Oz people on this list. But including Oz is awful. Everything about him is the antithesis of Jeopardy.

Apparently, based on her bio, I went to law school with Savannah Guthrie. I have no recollection of her.

I’ve been watching the last 3 plus weeks and I don’t really even notice Ken anymore.

EDIT: This is meant as a compliment.

So I'm a fan of Darryl's House on AXS, where Darryl Hall and group of musicians have a guest musician  / musicians over and play 4-5 songs from the guest and Darryl's catalogs with no rehearsal. Jam, sort of.  Hall also brings in a different, very creative chef every episode and they all eat together.  At any rate, last night Tommy Shaw from Styx was the guest.  They did Renegade and Blue Collar Man, and one other Styx song that I forget.  Shaw seemed a bit intimidated initially but it worked out well, Renegade in particular, which ended up quite different from Styx.  Shaw told a good story about playing with Ted Nugent, and also one about trying steak after years of being a vegetarian.

have you seen the Tommy Shaw concert with the Cleveland Contemporary Youth Orchestra?  The version of Blue Color Man they play at the end, as well as the extended version of Crystal Ball, are both outstanding.

Been watching Age of the Samurai on Netflix.  Docudrama I guess they call it.  Lots of blood and lost heads.  Not for the kids.

Please tell me Katie Couric isn't still hosting Jeopardy this week.  I watched last Monday's episode, and it was awful.  Tried again on Tuesday and turned it off about 2 minutes in.  Haven't watched since.

Yep. This week too. The whole guest host thing has gotten annoying.

I've got nothing against her but Couric hosting is like the narrator from HGTV hosting.  Her practiced even/neutral delivery just doesn't suit the role.

I can't  believe Jeopardy is still this popular amongst younger adults.

I grew up with Wheel and Jeopardy just about every night in my parents/grandparents household.  I imagine the story is similar for a lot of people.  That's not to say the shows don't stand on their own, but I would wager that kind of foundation probably lends itself to a deeper connection.  Alex Trebek felt like part of the family.  I don't have any particularly strong feelings about Ken Jennings the person one way or another, but to me his connection to Alex and the the show's history puts him head and shoulders above anyone else they could possibly consider for the job.

All that stuff aside, trivia in general is pretty popular across a broad range of demos, and inertia is a hell of a thing.  Nobody really likes change :P

Our oldest daughter was invited to try out on 3 occasions...once in Nashville when she was 19, several years later in DC, and again several years later in Pittsburgh.

In Nashville, they asked her what she would do with the $100K...she told them "Buy clothes."

She never made the TV appearance cut...
