He doesn't talk much about his third tour there (the one that closed out the war) as it was with Special Ops, but his 2nd tour he was flying normal C-130s on milk runs to the troops during the Linebacker push. By milk runs, I mean literally milk, not an easy flight like you'd usually think. Fresh food and drink was getting delivered to the guys on the ground using little dirt strips that they cleaned out of the jungle.
One strip he landed on was about 10 feet longer than was needed for the 130 to get airborne. He landed, then had to back the plane up to the other end of the runway - while under machine gun and rocket fire - to unload the food and take off. There just wasn't room to turn the plane around and if you know anything a C-130, you'll know just how small that strip was. They damn near spin in place when they turn.
