Any pointing at fans rather than himself as a part of lineups that haven't gotten it done when it matters is troubling on multiple levels.

This. People are not excited about this postseason it seems because of past playoff failures. There, I said it. Advance in the playoffs and the town will go nuts.

The Nats need to get the younger DC demo out to the park. DC's population is growing by more than 1K per month (population went from 500K in 2000 to more than 700K this year) and most of those people have decent incomes to afford DC cost of living.

DC United have done a decent job of that, even the Spirit when they play at Audi field. I think convincing young people to come watch baseball is an uphill battle

I see Ant'ny wasn't impressed with the gate last night.  He must have expected a bigger crowd to watch the team lock up fifth place in the League and then party in the Clubhouse like they just won the Stanley Cup.

Y'all worry about y'all selves, Ant'ny...

well, in fairness, a half full house during a playoff push against a major rival who looked like they'd be in contention with you as of a couple of weeks ago would sell more tickets in St Pete.

What time does the Metro shut down in St. Pete?

Scolding fans isn't a good strategy. The fans who showed up wanted to hear good stuff.

dunno. St Pete is a market MLB wants to get out of because baseball isn't viable there.

Scolding the fans who showed up isn't helpful.

Seems more like givin' them the finger than anything else.

Where was the club when 40K came out on multiple nights to watch them choke against the Barves?

younger professionals come out (my social media feeds are full of nats games), they tend to hang out in the bullpen more or in the public drinking areas

Rendon is not very articulate, to say the least.

But I will say the Metro shutting down is a cop out. Very few 7:05 games are impacted.

Slightly older professionals, and anecdotal, but I know a few families ditching nats tickets in favor of United

It’s almost like he got into rice solely because he can hit a baseball

I was in Dallas this week, they've got a new ballpark coming on-line next season.  I'm guessing they make a heck of a push to bring in the local boy to be the star attraction.

I saw an interview he did on Intentional Talk.  He was very engaging and well spoken...

Agreed. When he feels like it, he's a good interview.

Even those fans who show up in April or get rained on in June or watch/listen to almost every game wanted to hear good stuff.

That crowd last night, while small, was loud and rowdy.

I watched/heard that crowd with Bob and FP.    When they said 22,000 (+/-), I was shocked.    That was a good and informed crowd.

That's the only good interview I've seen him ever give among the dozen's he's given, mostly to local media. He just looks uncomfortable or couldn't be bothered.

Back when the Caps were happy getting blue "participant" ribbons every year after the 2005 lockout and attendance was crap, Ovie and Mike Green bought big blocks of seats in the lower bowl and game them to kids who were a lot less privileged than the ones who get to sit down there now.  Tony makes more than Ovie and Green combined...*ahem* just saying.

He did a crisp, funny interview with Grant and Danny.

Grant's bumbling word salads make Tony sound like Cicero delivering soaring oratory from the top of palatine hill
