Bloop single then the one mistake pitch was the hanging breaking ball to Pence.  If you take out the incredible luck that was Sandoval breaking his bat and happening to have the ball land between 3 defenders, Storen gets out without giving up a run. Not all saves are 1-2-3.  You say 2 hits to start an inning is not the plan.  I say any way you win a playoff game is a good enough plan to me.  There was never a meaningful run on base in that inning.  Job well done.

Yeah...and if I wasn't so old and was a lot better looking I'd be Brad Pitt...

Stop already...he gave up 4 consecutive hits in 2 outings.  He came in mid inning and at the start of the inning.  If this was Soriano, you'd want his head on a pike...and deservedly so.

Crap, huge budget presentation at 8am on Wednesday.  Guess my presentation will suck, no matter the outcome of the game.

hey - the way I look at it, getting out of that inning with the win at the end breaks the sense of nerves and doom.  Jitters will be less of an issue. It's never been a stuff issue.

I just got an e-mail from a guy I work with that said, simply, "That win was NEEDED!"

Gee, really? I wasn't clear on how elimination games work!

Same guy just sent me the following rant. Anyone have any ideas for a response?

Quote
They caught a break on Bumgarner's wild throw.  It was driving me nuts on
Saturday night to see a good contact hitter like Span hang tough w/
Strickland, but Denard kept trying to pull outside pitches instead of just
punching the ball to left, the way Sandoval did to tie the game.  Denard
made out in bottom of 18th pulling a ball weakly to first, and if he had
gotten on, he could have stolen second.  The Nats' hitters just think HR,
HR, HR, and they NEVER go the other way when they are pitched outside.  They
make it too easy for good pitchers to get them out.

Kansas City is reviving the stolen base all by themselves.  They are showing
that the game has changed w/ tighter drug testing, bigger strike zones, and
computer defensive positioning, so advancing runners and stealing bases is
important again.   Imagine what their run game would do to Wilson Ramos, who
probably couldn't throw out La Roche trying to steal second.   The Nats have
got to get a better defensive catcher next season, as Ramos is substandard
back there.  The Nats can trade him to AL as a DH.

Our offense was vastly improved from Games 1 and 2.

And weren't you the one who called for a sweep today, by a score of 9-0?  Oops.

"Vastly improved?"  We scored four runs - three of which were gifted to us.

I broke out into cheers whenever I saw Span take an outside pitch tonight to left.  He did that twice, and in his first at bat he worked it for 7 pitches before the stirke out. That was improvement.  Then he had a horrible at bat, first pitch ground out IIRC. Keeping Span doing what he does best and not over anxious is a key for this offense.

Even tonight, i could live with getting nothing out of Werth because i thought his approach was his normal one.  All i want from these guys is to play the way they normally do. That'll get the job done.  Desi can first pitch swing because that is his game.  I just don't want Adam becoming a swing-happy soft PA, Span to swing at OoZ pitches, and Ramos just flailing.

WTF is he saying about Ramos not being able to throw out runners stealing?  Ramos was at 38% this year versus 28% league average.  And of all nights to say that, Ramos had another one tonight.

In the regular season of 2014, Washington Nationals catchers' (primarily Ramos) 38% Caught Stealing percentage was the best in all of MLB.

Nats were CRUSHING the ball in the later innings - Totally squaring up on the ball - way better than anything in this series, except those 2 solo dingers in game 1.

Giants were lucky not to give up any more runs than they did. -

I think the offense has woken up

You can't say 3. Say 2, but even that bunt gets Cabrera and Zimmerman up with one out and fast runners on 2nd and 3rd. Cabrera did hit. I dunno could have gone anywhere.

Yeah, I sometimes wonder what he's watching. Same thing during Caps season when he claims to be watching the games and then he can't pronounce the players' names you presumably hear on TV every night if you actually watch the games.
