The catch was incredible. I don't think any other player on the team would have made it.

Span would have made it without leaving his feet, if he had been stationed in left field. But any other left fielder on the team, maybe not.

This game only took 2hrs and 1 minute.  That's incredible.

Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 96th win, each season:

2014 - 28th September (162nd and final match, to finish 96-66)
2012 - 29th September (158rd match of season; would go on to finish 98-64)
---
2013 - finished 86-76
2005 - finished 81-81
2011 - finished 80-81
2007 - finished 73-89
2006 - finished 71-91
2010 - finished 69-93
2008 - finished 59-102
2009 - finished 59-103

---

Going in on the Metrorail this morning I saw a Post sports section front page in which JZimm's no-no clearly took precedence (headline and big photo)...but what do you suppose would have happened if the Redskins had played yesterday?

What a special moment in Nationals history and you can't help but feel that this is just the beginning - not just of this season but of more no-hitters to come.  Last time I was in a discussion here on who would throw the first Nats no-hitter I said if it was going to happen soon I would bet on Zimmermann but if it took a couple of years I would bet on Strasburg and I fully believe Stras will get his one day too.  Zimmermann had some luck to make it happen (show me a no-no that doesn't need any luck) but his final line of 10 Ks shows that he had his best stuff working all day.  That catch by Souza at the end was the perfect way to cap a season where it really didn't come easy.  All along through April and May I believed that if the backups could stay afloat (within 5 games of the Braves) that we were going to be fine but I had no idea we would run away with the damn thing the way we did.  This team feels special.  They are hot at the right time and they have a "never say die" attitude that surpasses that of the 2012 team (a team that had this attitude in spades until the end).  At this point, I don't fear any other team in the playoffs.  We'll take all comers and that includes the Cardinals.  If this team plays the way they have the last two months, there isn't a team in baseball that wants to face them.

100 replies during the game.  this is the 109th after.  I don't know if we've ever before had a game thread that had more post game than game replies.

Probably because most people didn't really tune in during the game, since it was a meaningless game.

Exactly, I had to start the GDT while I was at the gym, much to N2P's chagrin

The "game recap" I just got in the email from Nationals.com is the most understated thing ever. They didn't deviate from the automatically generated message that just contains the box score...

I watched every minute, but on my phone, so I would have had to interrupt the game to comment.

It's surprising how often that happens to me.

Some of us were actually at the game, and it's not easy to post when there's a big crowd eating up the network bandwidth.
